Dear all,

Noticed that new Sonata YF launched in Korea in last September and debut in Australia as well. I was told Sime Darby will bring in the latest model in April and wondering how true it is.

Back to the new Sonata YF design and specification, this new baby will definite made an impact to rival Toyota (Camry) and Honda (Accord). Personally the Korean has improved and making another step closer to Japanese in automobile industry. I am looking forward to see this new Korea machines including the new Tuscon, another opponent to Honda CRV, I think.

So what is your comment, brother?

Happy CNY and a good year of Tiger to everyone.

Cheers

Whether the Sonata YF/i45 and the ix35 (Tucson replacement) will make a significant dent in the Japanese model sales will depend on the price and the specifications of the models that come in.

Both models will need to be in full-spec and priced significantly lower than the competition.

For the ix35, I hope the R-series 2.0 turbo diesel will be offered at the price of not more than RM125k full-spec. Hyundai cannot afford to price the ix35 too high with the impending Malaysian launch of the Kia/Naza Sorento and the soon-to-arrive Kia Sportage (sister to the ix35).

From a consumer perspective... it's always good to have more competition amongst the manufacturers.

I wonder whether SD will kill the car like the i30. They have to sell it cheaper or with much more features otherwise Malaysians won't even go near the car. Its a big purchase for the average Malaysian and we tend to stick to "safer" choices.

Anyhow I am waiting for more details and pricing. Hope its attractive. Fingers crossed.

Even the safer choices ain't that safe anymore. Witness the Japanese recall circus that's going around the world smile.gif

Anyway, check out the many reviews of this car in the states:

But note that they don't have the 2.0L version that we're gonna get.

haha.. I think SD or Hyundai Malaysia maybe still thinking how to price the car and how to specs it so that it is attractive, they can't screw it this time since SD taking over hyundai dealership, they only have 1 chance to intro the car with good specs and right price.

I think we can forget about the full specs, 6 air bag type.. as any full spec will make the price higher. Sonata NF is selling RM128.8 CKD with 2 airbag, and the price of new sonata is not much different in other country. So I assume the price should not be far from CKD version, if it is really CKD here..

A lot of people are awating for this to arrive in Malaysia and wanted to see if this is something they can look forward... after many years of Sushi T & H, it's time for Kimchi.

Another thing to take note is they fuel efficiency, it is claim to be best in class in terms of fuel efficiency, if this is true, I am amaze how fast the korean have learn and improve... they are the real bolehland whereas we are in dreamland..

sigh, there are few things that bother me from getting the sonata yf..
1. price and specs (i preferable to get the black interior rather than the skin color interior, and with the so call their DIMENSION audio + touch screen navigator)
2. WAITING period (how long i hav to wait to get the car ? if like mit lancer, they have to wait up to 10 mths when it's starting launch)
3. trade in value (currently i m owing sonata EF, wonder how high the price they can absorb)
4. reliability (how reliable izzit since it's a new Theta2 engine, with 6speed gearbox)

For an existing EF owner, I am surprised you are worried about the reliability of the YF!

Theta II isn't exactly new. It is basically the proven Theta I engine with the addition of variable timing on the exhaust side.

hi kevin,
haha, dont misunderstand, so far i am 110% satisfied wif my EF. However, the 6 speed gearbox is a major concerned since it's new. I still remember the defection of Honda Citiy 7-speed gearbox few years back, which cost 20k++ to replace a new one.
for engine wise, i thought theta 2 is a new since previously is theta 1 ? the HP and Torque produced by theta2 is very exciting and the FC for the new YF is the main reason i choose YF.
Oh ya, dont forget the interior design, which is totally a step ahead of previous style. Damn, i love it !
