I have read some comments on FOMEC in that spare-parts of Ford vehicles especially the Focus are priced quite high. Wear and tear items like shock absorbers etc. are mentioned to be more than RM1k for a pair. I was wondering whether spare-parts of say the all-new Fiesta would be available in after-market mechanic shops at cheaper prices. Was little concerned if parts break down after the warranty period and the cost to replace may be prohibitive.

May I know the duration of warranty period for Ford vehicles? For Nissan it's 3 years or 100,000km whichever comes first.

Thanks in advance.

same as nissan.

more info here :
http://www.ford.net.my/warranty.asp

i find ford parts are much higher after SD takeover. before that it was reasonably fair. ranger parts are priced great, but not for focus. for fiesta, maybe when the parts could be source from asean countries, hopefully it'll be in great value. i wonder about mondeo myself.

Thanks for the information matchip.

Last question(if I ever get a response). Anybody who has owned a Ford for more than 6 years would care to share whether there are any major components or parts break-down? If yes, what are those parts? Thanks in advance.

my ranger has served me for more 9 years, mileage now is 203,000km. no major problem so far, only regular service and replace wear and tear stuff. have change the lower clutch pump 2 times that cost less RM200. rear and front windows has been break twice, the rear one cost RM80, it's and attempt to steal my car. the front one cost RM150 if not mistaken, they steal my smart tag. both are genuine ford parts.

my focus Mk1 had 180,000 mileage. gonna be 10 years in september. the only major parts to be replace is the steering rack that cost me RM 3,800.00. how crazy is the steering rack cost, but i have no choice and rebuilding it would cost me RM1k too with just 1 month warranty. other than that i've replace the thermostat, link bar, tyre bearing clip without replacing the bearing, pulley adjuster and a radiator link pipe. all parts are maintain/bought by ford authorized service center, GTL is who i prefer now. I only had argument how expensive the pulley adjuster (after SD takes over) and steering rack (in 2007 i think) is. other than that i found it OK. ford's car are great.

Matchip, thanks for sharing the information. It was helpful. Since you chose to replace the steering rack of your Ford Focus instead of rebuilding it, I presume you are keeping the Focus for a couple of years more. RM3.8k for steering rack is quite a large sum to pay. On all other parts that you have replaced like thermostat, link bar, tyre bearing clip, is there any particular reason you got the replacement at an authorised Ford service center instead of a normal workshop outside? I am guessing these parts are not available at normal workshops outside?

Once again, thanks for sharing the information. The all-new Ford Fiesta is the no. 1 in my shortlist and I have to collect as much information from current Ford owners to ensure I am not making the wrong choice. On the driveability of the car, I have no doubts that the Ford drives great. I have two friends who are Ford owners and they have commented on the excellent driveability of the car. The areas of concerns going for this car are mainly on reliability and cost of maintenance apart from resale which are all common concerns for "cold" cars here in Malaysia.

FOMEC provide comprehensive info on the reliability and parts price of the ford range, focus being particurlaly expensive due to currently no subsidy from Ford as compare to when Ford malaysia was directly invovle.

Fiesta being CKD in Thai should provide afforable spare parts.

i never buy replacement parts from ford, they rob their customers blind. when my ford ranger radiator gave up on me, i got myself an after market and until now its up and running. the aftermarket ones are just as good.

wow... don't know city's sterring rack is so damn expensive as well. my focus cost RM4.3k something, after I asked for best discount, RM3.8k is what i get. i envy my friend on the E46 who could purchase a rebuilt steering rack just for RM600 and a potong one for RM450.00 only... they should have more focus in the cut cut shop... especially with the ST badge.
