1.6 is Gamma. Theta I is 2.0 although it is almost certain that Theta II will be offered since the Fortes sold in other parts of the world are already being produced with Theta II.

Launching date is Nov. 24th...it is about time as the sales figures are not doing well for naza-kia due to old and 'lame' models being sold...let me share a preview of what we can expect to get over here

Invitations have been sent to us for the media test drive to take place later this month. From what I hear, there will be a 1.6A and 2.0A variant.

Kevin,
Our Kia Rondo 2.0L DOHC CVVT is using Theta II engine right? So, Forte is using the same engine as Rondo / Optima?

QUOTE (Kevin @ Nov 10 2009, 06:50 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
If the Theta II engine is offered with the 2.0 model (instead of the Theta I), it will be the most powerful 2.0 NA engine in the Malaysian market (excluding the Civic Type R).

Some possible negatives:
4-speed gearbox
Torsion beam rear suspension

Pricing should start at RM75k for the 1.6 base. RM83k for the 1.6 high-spec and RM93k for the 2.0 high-spec.

The GEMA engine from Hyundai-Kia Motors R&D Center
The GEMA engine. Hyundai-Kia Motors R&DCenter received US$57 million in royalties from Mitsubishi and Chryslerfor the Theta engine. I guess that means Hyundai-Kia holds most of theintellectual property for the engine and Mitsu/Chrysler were more likecustomers. Here's some info:

Some info on the fuel-efficient Kia Rondo 2.0L DOHC CVVT Theta II engine. Here's the CVVT vendor - http://www.morsetec.com/ and the GEMA site - http://www.gemaengine.com/ which doesn't seem to be pushed by the alliance any more these days.

The Hyundai-Kia Theta (G4KC) is a gasoline 4-cylinder automobileengine family. This is the third all-aluminum engine of Hyundai MotorCompany debuted in the fourth-generation Hyundai Sonata sedan(codenamedNF) and Kia Optima (codenamed MG).

It features hollow stainless-steel DOHC with powder-metal camlobes, pent-roof combustion chamber and shimless bucket tappets in thecylinder head. BorgWarner Morse TEC supplies the complete set of timingsystem that uses the company's proprietary silent timing chains.CVVT(Continuously-variable valve timing) works on the intake side.

The aluminum alloy engine block, which is formed usinghigh-pressure die-cast method, has a unique Metaldyne-suppliedcassette-type balance shaft module with a two-stage oil pump built-in.In the lower-end, the block is reinforced by a ladder frame. Othernotable features include fracture-split sinter-forged connecting rodsand stainless-steel exhaust manifold.

Theta's EMS(engine management system) software is EMS-II fromSiemens VDO and the 32-bit PCM(Powertrain Control Module) calculatesthe amount of intake air by utilizing a contamination-proof hot-filmtype MAF(mass air flow) sensor.

Chrysler Corporation began production of a modified version ofTheta, dubbed World Engine, in Dundee, Michigan in October 2005.Chrysler engineered their own air intake system and exhaust manifoldwhich is made of gray cast iron. The World Engine also differs in theEMS as it measures the amount of intake air indirectly using a MAPsensor, another cost-saving feature of the Chrysler-modified engine.

Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA) is currently building aTheta II engine shop on the grounds of their Montgomery, Alabamaautomobile factory. The shop will build only the Theta II engine forboth the Hyundai plant and the new Kia Plant in West Point, GA. It isscheduled to be completed by August 2008.

The engine is used in:

HYUNDAI-KIA
Kia RONDO
Kia OPTIMA
Kia FORTE
Kia FORTE KOUP
Hyundai SONATA
Hyundai GENESIS COUPE 2.0

MITSUBISHI (4B1)
Mitsubishi LANCER

CHRYSLER
Dodge Caliber
Jeep Patriot 4x2
Jeep Compass 4x2
Dodge Avenger (Export)
Chrylser Sebring (Export)
