Bro fatty aka donald quack jayraptor,

Please read this piece of news from The Star.
http://biz.thestar.c...mp;sec=business

If the model Proton is sourcing is not the Lancer, what would be the likely one based on the current line up Mitsubishi has? My guess is that the new Waja model would be something like what Perodua does with the Myvi (a minor face modification of the Toyota Passo). Yes, the Waja might not get a 100% Lancer clone but something close to it. With so many geniuses from China and Taiwan, it will not be too long they will get a string of accessories to change them to a Lancer at minimum cost. So, your call on the Lancer's used vehicle value. rolleyes.gif

From the business point of view, Mitsubishi is likely to get hell lots of royalty from Proton based on the popular demand (price & CKD) compare to Japan CBU. The Lancer currently is selling at pathetic numbers too. Not so much due to the deficiency of the model, but the APs one can have is limited. Not withstanding the competitors’ strength. The ultimate objective of the govt. will always set on the priority to develop the local automotive industry and not CBU. Also try to do another research from the likely NAP policy that will be. If you are Mitsubishi’s management, what would be your strategic business direction? (Royalty from Proton or the small profit margin u get from your dealer via Hicom). It doesn't need a business consultant to understand such simple economics.

Please provide some simple reliable data to back up your argument if u are so sure that Mitsubishi is not going to allow the Lancer GT to be used as a base model of the Waja replacement.

Sunyatsen aka Miki Mao the Lidiman,

Based on what happened to MMC back then, they do not want any1 to rebadge their cars ever again due to badly damaged image back then. The Lancer is considered their top priority and will have full restriction on it from outsiders. Not even the not so latest generation chasis (Grandis) that MMC would consider giving out to any car manufacturer unless it's renowned Merc or Pug. Proton just keep bragging and giving false hope on gaining royalty from MMC to get Lancer, Grandis, A380 or whatsoever.

About the Lancer rebadged as Waja rumours is now nothing other than just competitors' favourite dirty technique to drag buyers that are going for Lancer. MMC now has Kia/Hyundai to backed its financial support and it could now concentrate on developing high tech advanced engine and some own made vehicles. Else, just sell higher tech engines & techs to Hyundai/Kia while the lower tech older generation engines to other carmakers.

Sunny is out of topic. It could beat Corolla only later as it's still on sale till 1994 as Nissan Sunny selling at RM20k+. Its rival Corolla already replaced in 1988/89 with another model then SEG in 1991/92. Same goes to Sentra N16 today, it could beat Altis from its generation sales because it's still selling today at very much discounted price. N16 - 2001-2009-2010 with price getting lower and lower while its rival Altis 2001-2006 now replaced with Altis 2007 that is still doing well and better.

Bro jayraptor aka Doanld quack the fatty,

I can understand if you are hesitant to face the fact. Are u saying the news by The Star is merely a piece of rumour created by competitors???? Come on, you gotta be better than this. The signing of the MOU has really taken place and negotiation is already in progress. If that piece of news is some concoction by the competitors, long time The Star 'tutup kedai' by the govt. or sued by Mitsubishi. From your reply, it is clear that you know nuts about car business or even basic business philosophy. Why would MMC wanted to pay Proton the royalty when the fact that Proton is dying for their technical collaboration????

Please give us some convincing data or at least some sort of announcement from Mitsubishi to show that they are unwilling to share their so-called "superior models". rolleyes.gif

Err simple example of the Wira in 1993 actually the current model Lancer 1992 model at that point of time.. same goes for Waja 2001 uses same platform and engine as the Mitsu Lancer at that point of time. So what makes u think that the Waja wun be the current model Lancer?? Maybe by then Waja will use the 1.6/1.8MIVEC instead of the 2.0MIVEC

Hi popcorn & Miki Mao!

Didn't you know that the last Orion 4G18 all aluminium engine was removed by MMC when they withdrew in 2005 or 2006. So are the 4G92 & 4G13 engines follow suit later. That forced the Waja to be fitted with re-moulded 4G92 1997cc CAMPRO S4 engine with the help of Lotus with slightly different pattern. The Waja was based on Mitsu Charisma platform but never look anything like it. Fyi, Lancer 2005 is not sharing the same platform as Charisma. Do you guys know exactly why MMC withdrew?

Ever since the traitors discovered within MMC and the ruined reputation and corruption that led to poor quality in technical parts, MMC had revamped everything and the Lancer is actually their most expensive highest effort placed project ever with high quality control and lots of restriction. They would never let any1 to touch its Lancer unless after several years later in future that EVO XI variant Lancer is ready to replace the current Lancer.

Please refer Volkswagen partnership as well, read them then compared with MMC partnership. You'll find same result. MMC is even reluctant to sell the A380 Galant platform. There have been news that the Saga BLM & Exora are actually China made platform as told by Chinese people from China.

Right, superbike especially getting the high demand 1 could actually retain resale value. Some could even fetch higher value when old. No doubt, Aprilia bike has more handsome fierce powerful looks compared to Kawasaki. Aprilia more muscular more blend and style in fact.

Better get back to Civic vs Lancer topic.. else bashing starts.... I vote for Lancer for having better reliability, durability, interior space for 5 adults, feel, build quality, engine output & torque, handling, performance, ride, engine sound and resale value in future. Oso can make it look EVO X or RallyArt when I'm bored with stock.

engine sound of lancer better than civic ?

smile_thumbup.gif From layman term of economics point of view, why would MMC allow or sell its current top selling model to a shitty company like Proton??? I would aceept the fact if the sell the previous version ie the chasis and exterior design but not the engine, transmission etc. They've done so much in the last few years and will not let go down the monsoon drain by selling the current model to Proton la.

Money? I am sure if the money is big enough, Mits will even sell their mothers to Proton.

I prefers to use my head than follow the crowd. After all, it is my money and not theirs.
