Any wash equipment (sponge,mf wash mit, schmitt lambswool mitt etc) can cause scratch if you are not careful.. " bucket method and grit guard just a preventive action doesnt mean it can prevent scratch. Once you touch the panel, there will be a chance for scratch to occur. There is no guarantee for it. Only what we can do just minimize and careful with what we use to wash the panel..

The 2 buckets method means one bucket soap water one bucket clean water. Every time must wash the washing material with clean water before dripping it into the soap water again right?

Can I not use grid-guard by not dripping to deep under the bucket to avoid the dirt?
Ram me if you can!

Vr2 taikor,

I'm gonna stop using sponge to wash car. Just found that sponge are easy and faster to wash, due to habit frommany years. But recently read an article from a detailing website, stated that sponge are the worst for car washing coz it hides dirt that damage car paint. And it cannot properly wash a car surface. Any suggesting for me? Using cloth better right?

Not all 'sponges' are detrimental to the paintwork. Good quality 'Sponges' that are specifically made for washing cars are as good as lambswool/sheepskin or microfibre wash mitt. Ultimitt, Shmitt, LC 'sponge' (all are now locally available) are a few samples of good quality 'sponges' that's quite safe to use.

With a good quality wash mitt, the Two Bucket Method (TBM) would further *minimise* the chance of inflicting wash induced swirls.

To simply put it, pick up the soapy water from the shampoo bucket, wash the car a section at a time, wring the sponge/mitt, dip it in the other bucket containing water to rinse off the dirt that's been *captured* by the sponge/mitt and dip it back into the soapy water to wash again.

This way, whatever dirt that the sponge/mitt picked up during the wash cycle are released/rinse out so that it's not in the sponge/mitt to cause any swirl/scratches.

The grit guard main function is to *trap* the dirt at the bottom of the pail/bucket hence preventing them from being picked up by the sponge/mitt when rinsing. You don't really *need* the grit guard if you're really careful when rinsing the sponge/mitt but it's a good tool to have.

Regards.

You might wan to follow my previous method which works well for me. I still using these method even with GG

Still 2 bucket. After wash 1 , 2 panel, use your water and spray the wash mitt to loosen or release dirt. Then rinse your mitt in your 2nd water bucket. squeeze it then only pick up the soap and wash again ...

but yourself some good wash mitt... u will never regret.

The sponge surface is flat and trapped dirt will be on the surface, therefore it will be easier to scratch the paintwork.
I used to use mf cloth. It has fibers where the trapped dirt can go into, but still not right.
Now using wash mitt, the fibers are longer therefore tendency to scratch is now much less.
After that the right shampoo, correct method to wash etc. etc........
Come on up for our meet up and I can show you my stuff (poison).........ha! ha! smile_big.gif

I don''t use a GG, because I wash/rinse my mitt after every 1 or 2 panels......... smile_thumbup.gif
