Hi ring!
What do u think about the Cruze launch delay?? From what I can see, GM is trying to settle its own prob 1st before launching the car in Malaysia so by that time, it'll be some time in 2010. For some car companies, their way of doing business is to keep large number of stocks then sell them at little depreciated price. That's why you get 2006 though you bought and had it registered in 2007. Good thing is that you get higher discount. Common for some CBU makes that could not lower the selling price any further, the only way is to keep the stock for some time and sell it. Can get 10k sometimes depend on year make. Looks like you'll have to wait till 2010 before you could get your Chevy Cruze.

Just to remind the people on Korean cars facts.
Korean carmakers don't build engine, transmission, brakes and other technical parts. Hyundai & Kia got their engines from Mitsubishi while Daewoo get engines from General Motors. Regarding the Korean cars poor FC, that was earlier generation as at that time, Mitsubishi refused to sell them latest engines instead supplied them modified older 4G6x sirius class engines. So old engines dragging heavier frame chasis cause the poor FC. Because of this, it gave the Korean cars a very bad perception and reputation. Since the Koreans are backing Mitsu during its darkest hour saved it from bankruptcy, all that has changed and Mitsu is more willing to provide them any latest technology.
Where as for Daewoo, it is owned by GM so the tech came straight from Americans. Since the Chevy Cruze has dual valve timing for its 1.6L & 1.8L engine, FC should be good. Anyway, have to test them out before judging. Wait next year???

About the Cruze delay launch, it not so straight fwd to bring in cars to sell in Malaysia. First there is MITI, Jab Eksais, then under table here & there, red-tapes, etc. Our NAP is also partly to be blame when new car can't come in to our shore. As you can see, all foreign cars do not have significant present in this market. So, it is not so important for many players to bring in their products. The makers rather put more a more active market such as China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan.
Take for example UMW. They plan to sell 5,000 Camry in a year, they maybe ship in 50 units per shipment & that depend on sale orders volume. If you place booking for one, the Sales Advisor will ask you to wait for 2 months. The silly ones like the Hicomobil Bhd had ship in thousands of Chevrolet & start selling slowly. They took don't know whose grandfather's money to keep up with the stock pile & cost of fund. They sold me the car in year 2007 at serious lost (talking about RM35K discount) considering they had ship in my car to Klang Port in Feb '06 and sold it in Apr '07. There had financial interest foregone with thousands of Chevrolet in several warehouses.
If I am in hurry for a new car, I won't wait till 2010. Furthermore, you can expect many trim level to be reduced to match with the Japs.

Never heard Aussies capable of building engines. If it's Opel, then probably. Anyway, Holden & Opel both owned by GM, common to share tech. Yes, you are right on gearbox. Gearbox is always bought from others except for some carmakers. Gearbox assembled in Korea possible but tech not from there. Koreans can't build up to date engines and transmission.
Hope they'll refit the Aveo's engine with GM Family1M engine used in Cruze as well. That'll help improve sales of Aveo. We need good FC and pulling power engines.

I doubt the latest Hyundai's CVVT engine was provided by Mitsu and for the Hyundai's gearbox it was source from DaimlerChrysler during the times where the Germans were in charge .
Holden oledi building their own cars and engines long bf GM took charge , of course they were spending huge resources on building super fast car until the whole company collapsed which smilar to Nissan's case .
As for Cruze's Dual Variable Valve Timing engine and Honda's i-VTEC , they do share the same characteristics :
- they need to rev hard to dig out the extra power.
- sometimes it sound harsh and poor refinement .
- there is a flat torque below 1700rpm .
Since Civic is a poorly insulated light car , naturally it will has the advantage of good FC/power over Cruze .
As for real power ,fc and excitement they shud bring in the Cruze's 2.0 turbo diesel(VCDI) instead .........

Hi bro kawkawchan!
Great info u got there. Thanks a lot. During Daimler/Crhysler time, Mitsu did steal some tech from the partnership. Mitsu/Kia/Hyundai got their transmission from JATCO. Mitsu & Kia/Hyundai have very close relation as Koreans have the money at that time when Mitsu got into trouble.
Cruze 2.0 Turbo Diesel will less likely be brought in unless the G upgrade the diesel grade. Did you play around with cars when you are in Australia?
