The unpredictable nature of the government's policy making means that even for a date this close, nobody knows for certain what's going to happen come Jan 2010.

Unfortunately, because of these flip-flopping conditions, manufacturers are hesitant to invest big money in our markets, as a result we continue to lose out of FDI as far as the car industry is concerned.

In the car industry, the players need to plan their strategy years in advance. our governments rapid changes in policy constantly throw the industry players out of track, making it very frustrating for them.

Another problem comes in speccing the cars. Think of it this way, when you pay RM80-90k, you are definitely expecting lots of goodies like power windows all-round, disc brakes all-round, leather seats and what not. However, the tax structure has resulted in RM80-90k getting you only the entry level models if you restrict your choice to imported cars.

Offering a high-spec car would price the vehicle out of the reach of its target market. Offering a low-spec car, like the Vios J leads to complaints by customers who say "Na beh, pay RM69k this don't have, that don't have *insert expletive*."

When I was in Australia, I saw cars like the Mazda3, BMW 3-series and Merc C-class start with bare-spec models that don't even have alloy rims before going the full monty at the top of the range. They can market a model range like this in Australia, and the car will sell because they are priced cheap relative to the people's income. Can you imagine Auto Bavaria selling a 3-series here with steel rims?

about this AFTA, i heard there will be price adjustments but only to those cars assembled/supplied by ASEAN neighbouring countries. cars like.... toyota camry and altis (thai), honda city (thai) as well as toyota rush (indonesia).

dont expect price drop for local CKD cars (P1,P2, Naza) or those imported from Japan (Honda Stream, Accord V6, RAV4) neither from EU countries (Fiat, Citroen, BMW, Merc)

this time malaysia govt will not have foul play on the neighbouring countries atfer the review in 2005 which allowed malaysia to hold AFTA on its automobile sectors. they will not dare to do so.

u seem to forget who's our g, and their "malaysia boleh" motto... they are the g and malaysia belongs to them... so they can and will do anything for malaysia's interest. what can other countries do, take them to world court? retaliate? go ahead, make my day....

A min drop of 5%. A max drop of 15% for higher capacity cars.

2nd hand cars will reflect this in Nov, 09. smile_tongue.gif
I would have quoted someone smart here and make me look smart but not as much smarter as the smart one I quoted from. I'm smart, yeah!
