
Diesel fuel filter

I would like to learn how to change the diesel fuel filter for Mazda
Fighter but cannot find (so far)any good website that teaches you how to
do it. All I have found is either too brief or the type of filter/
filtration system is different from what we have here.

i am not sure about mazda but nowadays diesel fuel filter is very similar
to oil filter. just untight and install a new one. that is! switch on
the key and let the fuel pump to run for about 1-2min before starting the
engine.

Thank you very much for your information.
I have briefly seen mechanics doing it and it seems to be simple too.
But when you are trying to attempt it yourself, it seems to be a different
matter altogether.
The thing that worries me a little is the electrical wire at the bottom of
the fuel filter. What does it do ? Do we need to disconnect it ?
Also at the top of the filter, there is a small handpump for you to pump
fuel to the fuel filter. With petrol fuel filters, you don't have to
worry, the fuel pump will pump the fuel. Is this the case with diesel
engines as well ? Or do we have to pump to fill up the fuel filter ?
We may have heard before the fact/myth that with old type diesel engines,
never ever let it run out of fuel because if it ever does, you will have a
lot of complicated work on your hands trying to clear out the air from the
fuel filter lines. Can any sifu elaborate on thios matter ?
If it so happens that air goes into the fuel line, the engine may not
start. Then the fun will really begin...

instead of a electrical pump, u have to pump the diesel oil and fill up
the empty filter. once it is full, u will feel a little harder to press
and some diesel will comes out for the gas release point.
then just start the engine and let it run. the wire underneath the
filter will be for detecting water. u can remove it and plug back later.
if too much trouble for u, just leave it to your mechanic during normal
service... o.k.

We hope that you will try changing the fuel filter and post your
experience here so that other forummers can benefit.
Your enquiry reminds me to get my truck's fuel filter changed too, as it
has been 70000kms since the last change in the early part of the truck's
life at 40000kms.

For Toyota diesel, it is recommended to change at 150K interval but most of the Hilus kakis changed it at 7.5K - 10K interval at the cost of RM68+- which is simple as oil filter replacement.
Why change often, because our diesel sucks high time and to prevent further clogging and deteriorate the engine mechanism better be safe than sorry....I follow what seniors and sifus have done !!
