I think maybe because it is a new car. My car was very sluggish below 2000km mark. Very very sluggish, very hard to accelerate, and frankly I regret of changing the car then.

But now I am now clocking 4000km..... and its... exhilarating..... really..... Just tried the aggressive ride back home from work last nite, and its not what I had expected. The pickup is very very very good.... no joke... If you can find test drive of about >3000km car, I'd suggest you try it. It will be a truer picture of what the car can actually do.

The love for this s40 grows fonder in me now

All newer Volvo models included S40 2.4i/V50 t5 Gear Box are with adaptive GB ECU, so your driving style will educated the GB ECU operation, if don't believe then let your wife drive it for couple of days and see any different from before....

Wow.. that's something new to me..... Never realised there are so many things than meet the eye with this Volvo. How come they never advertise all these things? Not like Toyota or Honda where even the electric power window also advertise like they are premium item.

Thanks very much Richard. Love grows fonder to this car smile.gif

bcos Volvo doesn't think that this is a new technology, in fact this is a 10+ years old tech !

Thanks fadli15 and others... i still hope there is a way to improve the slow pick-up. However, Fadli's experience could come my way soon... I'm used to Jap's lighter body and better pickup.

Anyway, cant wait much longer to own S40... committing to a used S40 with less than 5k on odo. Hope to get the loan approved soon. Adjusting to driving a conti is going to affect me - the signal and wiper issue and now, the adaptive tranny. I'm keeping my Jap MPV and sharing the S40 with my wife, so I can expect some getting used to some different driving experience.

Just maybe u guys may consider installing the Alternator Booster & Voltage Stabiliser from KL Auto which has proven to be effectuve with cars designed with drive-by wire technology. Desmond of KL Auto would be very pleased to offer the test it 1st and pay later if its effective.

Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those thing normally will only work on jap car or older contils car only...newer contil already have those stuff in build... i had installed many of those stuff in my 9 years old V40 but some will work and some just don't work..

Well its good to know u have explored those options to enhance the ride however, i'm suggesting maybe KL Auto's product is a bit diff from the rest available in the market. Furthermore, Desmond's policy, u try it then buy it, is guaranteed that customers will leave the place satisfied.

I would agree it "may" only work on Japs coz my current ride is Lancer GT & it has helped a bit in the giving smoother acceleration while reducing the rubber effect on the CVT trans.

Cheers!

Maybe you are still "new" to Autoworld forum( knowing you had joint AW for many years but maybe seldom log in here at Volvo forum ) or even KL auto...if you ask Desmond he will tell you that his use to own a Volvo 855 t5 wagon before and his also use to be active member over here in Volvo forum and VOCM as well and he even had advertise/demo his stuff in VOCM forum and TT and given member discount price as well.

Many of us know him well and also knowing his T5 use to fitted quite lots of his selling stuff...so ask him how well is those stuff work on his Volvo.....sure the answer will be same as my answer.

Further more now a day newer models Volvo had fitted with all latest technology /sensors /modules and smarted ECU that will immediately alert the owner is any parts are detected with error code's with performance below the manufacturer spec...so additional electronics stuff are pointless...

If maintenance cost of RM5k-8k per year is NOT a problem for you, go for it!

I own a S40 2.4i since Oct 2004. So far the maintenance cost average RM5k per year (including changing of tyres, batteries & other non-guaranteed items). For a used car, 8k is a reasonable estimation for service at SM or FA.
