latio service cheaper than altis 1115.gif

hwk,
Cheaper by how much of a margin ? Off topic, the Altis built overall quality and equipment level, and driving stability and comfort are very much higher then latio.

You guys are judging the car base on looks, specs and pricing. One thing that's never ever mentioned is the maintenace and parts. What's the point of having the best value for money car when parts are expensive or they are not available in the open market. Honda has started to control their parts and pricing are at their mercy.

Best is to have a vehicle with easily attainable spare parts with reasonable price. You wouldn't want to have a break down in the middle of nowhere and have to tow to the nearest service centre just because the parts are not available thru the local spare parts shop.

Yup..agree with you..that's what most of the "Car of the bla bla awards", "Engine of the bla bla award" being rewarded. Most of the awards does not take in the reliability and maintenance factor in the scoring system. How to give score on this criteria when the car and engine is still new?

Pug 308 might be a very good car in some countries but definitely not in Msia. Why? Although the car outperform most of the Japanese at the same class but I can bet that the Japanese is easier/cheaper to maintain in the long run.

FEAR is a powerful tool.

Search the Web / Google for Peugeot 308 issues / problems. You'll be amazed with what you found (more like didn't find). Peugeot 308 has been sold worldwide since 1.5 years ago.

And thanks for acknowledging / stating that the Peugeot 308 outperform most of the Japanese at the same class.

That was lovely(!). You are too kind.

unofrtunately, there is no civic 1.6 in malaysia while the latio, nevertheless a good car but its just too old. though it was on sale here in 2006, it was actually launched in singapore in 2004. the life cycle is coming to an end. stop the buying and tan chong will quickly bring in the repalacement.

maybe the latest sentra, perhaps?

Hi alldisc,

Nice pics, where did u get it from? Actually, the Sylphy is the new Sentra so we won't be getting any of these US built Nissan not even in other Asian countries. We'll be getting only the weird looking design from Nissan Japan.

In terms of easy repair n large number of parts availability, Toyota lor. Their old fashion traditional wiring can still be fixed by non-authorised workshop with aftermarket diagnostic machines. Those with multiplexers n local bus, they'll need latest not yet available in market only compatible diagnostic machines owned solely by that car manufacturer.

is the Sylphy really the new sentra? if i am not mistaken, the name in japan is actually Bluebird Sylphy - which is one class above the Sentra.

Hi alldisc!

Yes the Sylphy is indeed the new Sentra. In Japan Sentra N16 is named as Bluebird Sylphy. Actual Bluebird has evolved into Nissan Altima that is only available in America continent. Remember the last time Bluebird exist, named as Altima? New Altima is real nice.. too bad, Asia countries r getting only Teana.

However, Nissan Malaysia n Singapore will never admit that. If they do, they'll be selling old Sentra alongside just like back then in the 90's, Sunny is sold as separate model from Sentra which is supposed to be Sunny's replacement. Please check Wiki again, there are few bluebirds if u use search. Bluebird Altima, boxy Bluebird (available only in Japan, India n few countries) and Bluebird Sylphy (Sentra).

Just like Civic and Corolla Altis, all have been promoted into C-Segment. Whereas City, Vios and Latio r entry level B-segment.

i noted that, it is unfortunate that Nissan take the Bluebird name and Sentra/Sunny/Pulsar body and combined them to become Bluebird Sylphy.

I can say that Nissan is getting a little confused, dont u think? maybe that was the reason they almost went into bankruptcy before Renault took over.

erm, by the way... could u let me know what happens to the new Sentra as per the pciture? where is its positioned? above the latio and below it? or is it somewhere in the middle between latio and sylphy?

Hi alldisc,

The new Sentra USA is at the same position as Sylphy under C-segment at 1 level above Latio at the border between B-segment and C-segment. 1 of Nissan marketing strategy to have an edge over Vios and City under B-segment market. Unfortunately, the Sylphy does not share the same Renault chasis frame used in the new Sentra USA. Otherwise Sylphy would have wide body instead of narrow 1695mm that could hardly fit 3 adults at the back due to thick door panels. It's even narrower than N16 despite having long wheelbase at 2700mm vs N16 2530mm.

I think Nissan manufacturer is a little confused at naming cars. Not to say just the name of the models, even the brand itself. It changed from Datsun to Nissan. So are the cars:

1) new 1989 Sunny renamed to Sentra so that old model could still be sold under the name of Sunny
2) Sentra being upgraded in size so the name turned into Bluebird Sylphy.
3) Actual Bluebird being enlarged from C to D segment then being renamed to Altima.
4) Local market bluebird is foul language so being replaced by Maxima aka Cefiro
5) and now Cefiro being renamed as Teana.

Lol, like father like son.

In Strategic Management context, this would be called "confused positioning".
