Swift Ckd Is Built On Cost Saving?

Some observations i have made to share with you guys here. I think Swift be it CKD or CBU is better than Vios (latest gen.) in terms of interior quality at least. I test drove one latest gen Vios, the highest spec one, the dashboard looks cheap and the two pieces of hard plastics beside the radio actually move if you rub them. It was the test car, can you imagine? Poor quality.

Another thing i found out is that Swift engine actually revs much smoother than both City(the latest year '09, E spec) and the latest gen. Vios (Auto). Especially the Vios, in D gear, i rev to 4k RPM onwards, it sounds like a concrete mixing machine working very hard or something like that. I don't think the Vios engine is still tight or just came out from factory as it has clocked 3k kms plus mileage. Maybe it wasn't using fully synthetic engine oil or maybe it was using thick viscosity engine oil, so the engine sounds harsh. 'cos my ride is on 5W-30 fully synthetic engine oil.

As for the City, yes, it was very new, i believe the engine has not been properly run in. But it sounds better than the Vios when i rev it to 4k RPM onwards.

However, i bought my Swift 3 years ago without test driving Vios or City. I made a right decision.

Hey vinPetrol, like to know which brand of 5W30 full syn engine oil you are using. Is 5W30 the recomended grade for the Swift.I can`t find this info in the manual. I am definately switching to full syn after a year and half. I know CBU owners have had no complaints. Since mine is CKD, for warranty sake,will use the SC engine oil for 1&1/2years.

I'm using Total QUARTZ 9000SM 5W30 fully synthetic engine oil for my car.
It feels better, revs smoother than my previous Shell semi synthetic. I also noticed the fuel consumption has improved a bit, 5-10%.
Mobile1 5W30 is good too but not easy to find here.

For Swift CBU, the factory engine oil fill is 5W30 but service centre or workshops always fill in 5W40.
In Kuching, the service centre use Shell semi synthetic 15W50. No idea why they use such heavy oil. Personally i prefer to go to workshop to change the engine oil and the filter. So that i can watch them really drain the engine oil out completely then change the proper filter then pour in 4L of clean engine oil. I just don't trust ppl with my car.

It's better to use the lowest viscosity engine oil possible, in Swift's case, it's 5W30. Unless there is engine oil loss, but i don't think it will happen if the car is serviced properly. Even my Honda accord that has clocked 240k km doesn't 'eat' engine oil.

Ya, my old SC gave me Shell 15W50 when i 1st serviced my car with them, my car felt so heavy n underpower. Recently serviced my car with new SC, they are giving Mobil1 10W40

You shall try 5W-30 engine oil in your next service. It will be even smoother and fuel efficient.

with the differences in new price between CKD and CBU, its a no surprise that the CKD swift may just use substitute parts.

its not easy to justifya model for CKD. the cost for jigs alone can reach millions.
