i was on a boring drive when i think of this question.
when u drive a car with auto tranny, where did u position your heel?
in between the gas and brake pedal?
or more towards the brake pedal?

is there a correct position?

for me....i put it between brake pedal and footrest.
this is more comfortable for me.

the correct way is on footrest...but not all human being created equal leg length...so i ended up put it there...hehe.

i assume u are asking while we're cruising on a highway without much traffic... and the heel belong to your left feet...

for me, i'll alternate my left feet between foot rest, on the floor close to the seat and under my right thigh on the seat, whichever is most comfortable at that particular time... putting in one position will make my leg tired. no need to standby for braking because that's a job for my right feet... although many drivers brake an auto tranny with their left feet.. to me, it's just to avoid accidentally pressing the acc with my right feet when my left is pressing the brake pedal (at the same time).

betwwen brake and gas pedal? first of all, there's not enought space there to make your feet comfortable (unless it's a lorry, maybe, definitely not in a small car) or to react safely during emergency. Many accidents are caused by shoes/feet get stuck or tangled with brake or acc pedal.

btw, i'm against ppl who rest their left feet on the brake pedal whether auto or manual tranny. sometimes, unintentionally they press the brake pedal. I've seen cars with brake light on (from behind) while driving on highway.
