Tyre Shine

I'm new to this auto-detailing forum...and I have first question regarding this tyre shine thingy being sold off-the-shelf. Is this stuff worth the price being sold? I have used this stuff many donkey years ago....at that time, the 'technology' then kept the shine on the tyre for up to max a week, then after a heavy downpour or car wash....the shine just got washed away...then it looked worst than not applying it in the first place! Do you guys here use this stuff regularly?
Some kakis here may have had asked this question before, but I hope the sifus here dun mind filling it in for me again.
p/s: vr2turbo, mubull...if you read between my lines...i think you can probably sense that i've just been bitten by a new deadly poison, though it's still a long...long...long way to go, i.e dying slowly but surely! And I know who to thank for this!

Hi whoopee,
You started asking for comments/help from tyre & wheel talk. We met up for TT, visited the the tyre shops, and after a few checks and consultations, you decide and upgrade your tyres & rims. Well, so far the comments from the group is that you have made the right choice and the package really suits your car.
Well, from there on since this is a car forum. we started exchanging ideas on other aspects, like auto detailing and modifications, and well you got stuck to the next poison of detailing after seeing mubull's ody....ha! ha!
Well, if you have got the time, it is also a good exercise regime without the polishing machine that is.
For your question, I have heard that the Auto Glym one is pretty good but a bit on the expensive side. For me, after testing out quite a few numerous brands, I would recommend the cheapest one you can find. This is because as you mention, a drive through our Malaysia road, will wash your shine away
During your weekly car wash, redo an application of tyre shine and this will keep your car looking bright and shinny.

Those of you familiar with the area of SS3 PJ, the Esso station there actually has its attendants to rub a layer of tyre shine for you absolutely free.
I think it's simply because they're losing out big time to the Shell station besides them.
I declined because I never saw the point in tyre shines, but you guys can go ahead and try it.

Those tyre shine is quite similar to the those used by the tyre shop guys.
I have seen them applying to cars at a Petronas station also.
If not mistaken these are water based products where they buy in concentrated form and mix with water.
Looks shinny when applied but last only one day if there is rain.....ha! ha!

Haha, doesn't make a difference to me. I don't even wash my tyres.

Actually when they first started this tyre shine, it is suppose to act as a protectant also to ultra violet rays etc. to prevent the rubber from premature drying and cracking. With the cheaper alternative nowadays not sure if it does anymore?

rdgs,
First, I will share some of my first dummy experience on 'auto-detailing' in another thread....
Meanwhile, I tried to find the cheapest OTS tyre shine last weekend at ACE, but unfortunately the cheapest bottle (in terms of volume proportion) I could find was of 'Hunting' brand, which still cost about RM13.50! It says on the bottle: '...lasting up to 14 days', but after applying it in recent car wash, i think it will probably only last that long if you do not drive your car or just leave it in the car showroom, since it doesn't look as shiny and glossy as what I would expect...kena con liao...sigh!
I shall continue to search for something cheaper & shiny one again.....sharing & using the bulk concentrate could be a good idea too.

Whether the tyre shines or not also depends on the rubber. I have tried the same tyre shine on GY, Falken and Yokies rubber and find them to shine differently. Could also be the age of the tyres/rubber, and also the sidewall design.
Maybe you don't see so much shine as you don't actually have much rubber to shine (45 series), and because your rims outshines the rubber also....muhahaha
