I used both car charger and home charger to charge the phone.
Yes 016 can track 012.

Brilliant idea Aeiou! Noted this idea has been posted for 3 yrs and it
still stays. Does it mean it is proven?

Main problem that I can think of is what highlighted earlier. The device
that track batteries of laptops and HPs. Spoken to some accessories shop
just last Sat. Understand the tracking device can even detect built in
battery in the laptops meaning even if you dismantle the batt of your
laptop they can still detect your laptop. In that case sure they can
detect hp. Would this idea increase the chances of unnecessary breaking
of windows? Thing is can they differential btw hps and laptops? Since hp
getting cheaper, chances of breaking window to steel cheap and old hp
might be minimised.

It would be good if those who have tried share their findings. May be
those who know abt this laptop/hp tracking device can share their views.

Anyway, got a joke to share. Friend of mine experience car window kena
broken due to 2 ba chang placed on the car seat. Must be some addicts. So
hungry that even ba chang also not spare! What kind of society we are
heading toward? Vision 2020?

Gentlemen, if money is not an issue, by all means buy the best Guard or
whatever Guard money can buy for your car.
But if u r on shoestring budget, than use the factory fitted standard car
alarm and apply the above low cost GSM tracking idea for added security.
Now only cost u RM10 to buy a hotlink sim card. This is the cheapest
supplementary car security system which utilise existing celco GSM
service. Only 45cts per tracking, why wouldn't u make use of it ???. My
car was fitted with immobilisor, but i added above GSM tracking idea
into my car because it cost me practically nothing.
GPS or GSM tracking do not protect the car from stolen. It merely allow u
to track the whereabout of the car.

As for aeewantu26 question:
"but 1 question that i wanna ask; even thou our lost car has been
tracked,
what can we do next?? if we make a police report, say that we tracked our
car and knowing that its on the plus highway, do u think that they
(police) will take any action?

or, is there any other way that we can stop the stolen car???"

Well.. theres a will, theres a way. The tracking will tell u at which
Kilometer your car is traveling at the highway, just call the police
nearby to wait at the toll plaza. Police is always an efficient law
enforcement force if u know how to talk to them. or
At the least, u know ur car is smuggled to Thailand if the last tracking
tells u your car is in Bukit Kayu Hitam or Rantau Panjang. As chances for
recovery is very slim for stolen cars smuggled into thailand, u can buy a
new replacement car immediately without the need to wait for 6 months
lost car confirmation from Insurance companies.

Hi AEIOU,

I've already bought myself the Nokia 1208, slightly costlier then 1200 but it comes in black so it won't be so easily seen! The only thing is being GSM, the coverage is pretty wide and thus, not as accurate as GPS. I actually have a GARMIN GPS that I use to find location. Is there a way this can be incorporated in to act as my car tracker, together with the Friend Finder? Then GSM with Friend Finder and GPS with GARMIN? But I usually off my GARMIN when not in use, especially when I'm not in the car... Also, it always lose coverage when in the building, like carpark... Finally, If I'm to hide it out of sight it will probably lose signal as well? Then there is the tracker that uses GSM and GPS that doesn't require installation, like Tramigo... yet to call them up for info... I can't install any device in my car as it will void warrantee... sad.gif Anywone using them? Any feedback?

Ai..yay..yay.. This Friend Finder thingy doesn't work! I understand that the radius is pretty wide in comparison to GPS but imagine this - I tested by Friend Finding my 2nd hp (which is with me near Chow Kit) and guess where the reply says? Bukit Jalil! Imagine depending on this and freaking out or going on a wild goose chase!

Let's give AEIOU a BIG round of applause for his brilliant idea.

I have gotten myself an old Nokia fitted with new ori/hi-capacity batt that can last easily 10-12 days. Disabled all functions that may consume more power like BT, IR etc. It would be even better if you can block incoming sms.

Just wanna ask something, what if you track the car and found it chopped up? We know how fast these guys work. How does insurance deal with chopped up recovered cars? If they don't give compensation or partial compensation wouldn't it be better if the vehicle is not found at all?

Shhhhh...

Buy the Non colour screen Nokia 1200 better (RM99), more standby hours.
As for installing GPS receiver in the car and track it via internet, well, no low cost solution for this (hope some one can teach us how). You can have it done but it is a full fledged service commercially available in the market and you need to pay $$$$ for initial installation and monthly subscription.
But GPS can only be in its full functionality if the car in parked in the open sky. Whereas GSM, can track cars several basements down the floor in most popular shopping complexes.

blink.gif That's was a big discrepancy. I never come across this situation. Maybe some temporary hiccups with the telco.
