If you need a new car now, then buy now. If you need one next year, then buy next year. Just like computers there is always a better model coming over the horizon. So if you want to get the BESTEST deal on the BESTED model you will be waiting forever.

Hi mibam
I bought the S40 2.4i in 2005 and until today i'm still driving the car. My loan will end this Nov-2011 and i'm thinking of trading it with some other new makes. It's not a bad car though if you want to be different from your peers.
After 3 years of ownership and when the warranty expires, the costs for wear and tear is expensive to me compared to Japanese brands eventhough i could afford it. If maintenance costs is your concern, then this is not the car for you.
FYI, i traded my 2-year Toyota Altis 1.8 for this S40 2.4i and felt the difference between Japanense and Continental brands in terms of road handling and long-distance travelling. However, toyota is much cheaper to maintain. FYI, I'm also currently driving Merc C200 Compressor for 2 years now and feel that it is a much more exciting car despite only 1.8cc.

not always the case, sometimes you see a bunch of unhappy people. anyway, no harm hanging there, and more importantly go test drive....new launches coming. who knows, your wife may like it.
Thanks for the input...will definitely go test drive when they launch new models (assuming i haven't gotten myself a new car by then lah...)

Yes, Mondeo are indeed a good car, was awarded with many international awards. it had share some common parts with Volvo S60 ( the previous model) & also current Jaguar XF... just over here it was understatus by many local buyers... i will say it's a good buy if compare to Volvo S40...
Thanks V406198!

hi razibar,
many thanks for your inputs! really appreciate it. i am aware of the maintenance costs issue and the fact that japanese cars are much more cheaper to maintain...there are pros and cons of owning a continental car and i have done that analysis...i am still on the fence and i think if someone pushed me slightly, i might "fall" to either side - buying the S40 or not...you almost did that! but which side, i am not telling you just yet! thanks!

I was informed S60 CKD will be launched later this year but the price will be around RM250k, which is a bit too much for me. So, if given that i can choose any other car that cost about RM175k, what other car do you recommend? I have considered Camry, Accord, Mazda6 but wife will give her green light in S40 only! How!? Hehehhehe...

You may get green light for Golf TSI and cheaper somemore. Its' a great car! Read mine and teeaseye's posts on our Genting trips here:-

This Golf is an interim measure. Yes, the Golf 7 may be out in 2012 or 2013, so buy what you need now. I believe the Golf TSI will remain relevant for many years.

OK, I decided not to buy the S40. Went to test drive S60 T4 CKD over the weekend and it felt GREAT! The price is also reasonable and I think I can manage it. Would you guys highly recommend the S60?
