In our beloved 206 maintenance schedule, there is no mention of servicing of rear brakes. However I would personally recommend this. This is because the rear drum brakes are completely seal. So, when we brake, the brake dust from the brake shoe builds up in the drum. In the long run, this build up of dust will reduce the ability of the rear drum brakes to disperse heat. I would recommend that the rear drums be opened and cleaned yearly, regardless of mileage. This can be done by any mechanic. No special tools or special knowledge is required. Opening up the rear drums is exactly the same as for any other cars (kancil, proton, etc). You should not pay more than Rm30-40 for servicing it.

xadi,

besides just servicing the drum brake any wear and tear parts/components need to be changed? or just plain servicing only?

Nothing to be changed. If the brake shoe is worn out or the brake pump is leaking then have it changed. other than that...just cleaning it is enough

Thanks for the useful recommendation.

Went to replace tyres yesterday. Asked the mechanic to "service" brakes. Opened up the drum cover.... very very dusty.....thouroughly cleaned with air blower and water. Don't know phychological effect or real.. now felt that the brake more "makan" ....hehe.
