Read this :
PKR deputy president Azmin Ali says 'radical changes' to the National Automotive Policy will be formulated in the interests of car buyers.
Pakatan Rakyat will propose a "radical solution" to greatly reduce the tax burden imposed on Malaysians under the National Automotive Policy.
PKR deputy president Azmin Ali said the proposal will be tabled during the Pakatan Economic Summit, scheduled to be held next month.
He said the proposal aims to greatly reduce the burden of triple taxation currently imposed on car buyers, effectively decreasing the disposable income available to Malaysians.
Azmin stressed that the BN government has been charging up to three types of tax on each car bought in Malaysia - import duty, excise duty and sales tax - and that this has pushed up the price of cars by at least 70 percent.
He pointed out that hire-purchase loans for passenger cars account for some RM118 billion worth of household debt, based on Bank Negara statistics.
"A close estimate is that at least 70 percent of (the) RM118 billion in loans borne by Malaysians (arises from) the high taxes," he told a press conference today at the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya.
though we think it is slim hope for them to win, but just do your part......will you??

Easily said than done.
If the money is not coming from the left pocket, it will come from right pocket.
In the end we are going to pay for it, in other form of taxes.
Don't be too naive in believing what politicians said. They are only good and winning poor men's vote and rich men's money
And further more, if car price is going to be tax/duty free, there won't be any roads left (since they are all turned into one big car park)
I rather pay more in tax to own a car but get the privilege to enjoy traffic jam-free roads like in Singapore.

I agree with you. You are wise.
Yes, it's nice to buy car cheaper but that would congest the roads even more than now (which is already bad as it is). Sometimes it is just about winning votes.

I agree on most of your points. One thing I vehemently disagree is on the free imports, but I won't argue. I'm afraid it would lead to a shouting match which I have neither the energy nor will to maintain in a forum for cars.
That said, I would still like to see less private cars on the road, even if for the sake of the environment, and much more efficient public transportation.

Not when the gahmen switches ownership tax to consumption tax.
I was very happy when petrol cost RM 2.70 a litre because that meant traffic suddenly reduced to a tolerable volume in the Klang Valley.
If the acquisition price of cars go down, then road tax and excise duty on petrol should be escalated. Govt should also collect sales tax or GST on tolls. Road tax should be charged based on the unladen weight of vehicles, not by engine capacity. Heavy vehicles damage roads more. With high price of petrol, those who buy large capacity engines will be taxed more since fuel consumption will usually be higher.
