hi everybody...
i'm new in this area. i just got this laser tx3 1.6 from my uncle. i'm in
the process of repairing this car. every thing on this car is std spec.
i would like your help. what's the price for:
1. all 4 absorbers
2. all suspension bushes
3. timing belt+tensioner bearing+2 oil seals
4. all 3 engine mountings
5. cv joints (the rubber boot on the right driveshaft inner & outer
joints are torn, noisy when going over road bumps)
6. rev counter reads 7000 rpm during idling, can it be repaired?

my concern is on the price of parts. i think that is all to be changed,
repaired after my inspection. the engine sounds ok, no smoke from the
exh. efi system seems ok.
appreciate all the help i can get plus any additional info on this
1980's "hot hatch" :p

Thanks in advance.

i'm also own the same model of TX3 as yours (square front light). For
your info, most of the sparepart for this model are no more available at
spare part shop but you can find it at chop-shop. My istimation price for
the parts are:
1. Cheapers brand kayaba is around RM500 (new)
2. < RM100 (new)
3. Around RM400
4. +- RM 120 (second hand chop-shop)
5. < RM50
6. <RM50
7. Labour cost + bla bla bla = RM 150.

I also planning to rebuild my TX3. Still searching the second hand front
& rear B8 bumper but very difficult to get lah. Anybody here know where
to get it please tell me.

Hi MrDuke,

like yourself and joraq202, I drive a 86 TX3 as well. as what joraq said,
most of the parts are difficult to find brand new anymore. but still there
are some parts which are avail brand new, but local made.

1. chop shop. RM 80 a piece
2. use bushes from other cars. i use performance bushes (orange color) made
for proton
3. no idea
4. can buy local made mountings. priced between RM80 to RM 145 a piece
5. outer cv joint costs me rm 120 per piece(local brand new). never changed
inner joints before.
6. no idea.

Happy restoring! :)

hi vt ten & joraq 202...how r u? nice to know others with the same
interest

mine is also square headlight model, without plastic cover.

my tx3 is in the workshop right now. probably will be completed on
monday. fortunately the front absorber, cv joints still usable. the
mechanic just changed the rubber boot on all 4 joints.
-ask parts shop, 1 absorber, rm115, quite cheap. this is in muar.
-steering rack boot changed,
-engine mountings 2 out of 3 changed (new, i think local part)
-brake master pump repaired (using repair kit, same as mazda 626/ford
telstar),
-both front brake hose changed.
-timing belt, tensioner, oil seals changed (on the box, written mazda
astina)

1 part was different, crankshaft pulley is the type with rubber vibration
damper. outer & inner part faulty (can spin). actually should be 1 piece,
locked together. mechanic said, new is expensive, managed to find good
used part.

-again, this pulley, according to my mech, same as mzd astina.

overall, i think mechanical parts is easily available, similar as the
rest of ford, mazda range.

i'm looking forward to driving it next week. later, need to check exhaust
c o and change the steering. small sports steering now, speedometer is
blocked from view. laser "sampan" 3 spoke steering looks better, i prefer
that.

Most standard mechanical parts can still be had from the likes of
Wilakota & Kemuncak Auto. Body parts are the one that you may not be able
to find brand new. Do a search for both these outlets & give them a call
or a visit.

Kemuncak is in Segambut, just near the roundabout. But I'm sure there are
others, just that I find it convenient to call & get to.

Are you from Muar? I also from Muar but now staying in S.Alam. Is your
TX3 already with power steering? If not I can recommend you one chop shop
at Kajang that sell & install the second hand power stearing. It costed
me RM550 only. You will not regret! But I'm not sure whether they still
have the stock.

hi...

yes.
my car already has power steering. i thought all tx3 came standard with
pow strg.
previously i was looking for tx3 1.8, but settled for this car as it is
free Big Smile
tx3 "bubbleback" as it is called. model code is "KC Laser"

have a look at interesting enthusiast website from australia n new
zealand. seems this car is very popular there, especially the turbo model.
anyone here has the tx3 turbo 4wd model? that's a classic.
