You might be wondering why am I posting this over here. The reason is because I am looking for a 2nd hand car with this amount of money. I know I am a new driver with about 8 months of experience so I know I am proned to scratching the car or something. So I am looking into 2nd hand cars.
I have a list of cars to choose.
1. Used Volvo S40
2. New Kia Forte SX
3. New Honda City Grade E
4. Used Smartforfour
5. Used Honda Civic
I wanted to get the Kia Forte due to its bang for buck value but then I heard they have a lot of issues cause of Naza's service. Bad.
Honda City, too common for my liking.
My aunt said Smart cars are for idiots in Malaysia.
S40, expensive maintenance. But my dad says if it keeps me safe, he's alright with it.
I always liked continental cars. I mean the comfort, sound insulation, the smoothness of the power delivery, sense of security and the list goes on. But it all comes down to knowing how to take good care of the car.
Is it hard to maintain the S40? Is it appropriate to get a 2nd hand S40? Roughly about 2005/2006. If this is not the right car, what car is then? I really like the S40. Super comfortable car, drove once in my uncle's car, fell in love with it.

Think any other 4 car in the list is better off Volvo, the reason is simple...
1) with Volvo and your age, ppl will think you are driving your mom car..
2) with Kia Forte SX or Honda City or Honda Civic will make you hot amount your friends and easy to pick up hot chic...
3) with Smart, ppl will think you are smart...you seen like one.
seriously, car you drive will represent your personality, so ask yourself what person you are ? then choice one below..
a ) Kia Forte SX - for person that dare to try new thing/trend and care/worry nothing about $.
b ) Honda City - for person that just follow others..and strongly believe Honda design are the best.
c ) Honda Civic - for person that still believe Civic is the legend..as influenced too much by the history of Civic.
d ) Smart - for person that care about our environment and also care about yourself only.
e ) Volvo S40 - for person that scare to die and believe you will still be safe after highspeed accident.

Hi Toodles and All,
Saw one grey color 06 S40 at a used car lot in Jln. Cheras going for abt rm95k.
Mileage ai 98kkm, just suit your budget.
Wonder what needs to be replaced at this high mileage - g/box, timing belt/chain besides the normal oil-change.
BTW, can someone enlighten what is the cost of all the oil-change after buying over the car?
The total cost at SM? and outside w/shop?

S40 is a great car but i dun recommend to students, you wouldn't want caught in the spot 'still trying to crank the car when ur exam will be starting in 5 mins time'
Buy it if u know reliable mechanics as there are many parts can be locally sourced
correction to ur statement:
actually we, fortezens are money conscious too, would not want to spend on smaller segment like vios or city...we stand out from the crowd
now forte comes with 5yrs unlimited mileage - worry-free
parts and service are cheaper compare to civic or even city
resale value : well, no one can predict the future but you would not care much coz if it is a good car u gonna spend many good-years with ur proud ride
i know some good NazaKia SCs with very frenly and supportive managers and strong technical team ....not all SC sucks, just avoid the bad....i know T & H SCs with craps service and attitude

Bro darrel
Sorry that my early advise statement given to the PS was not crystal clear...
what i intent to say actually should be pen as.." Kia Forte SX - for person that dare to try new thing/trend and care/worry nothing about resell value" instead of " Kia Forte SX - for person that dare to try new thing/trend and care/worry nothing about $"....
hope that the above is crystal clear now..
