Isn't Autoglym suppose to be bird shit resistant?

Hi guys,

For the first time in my life, I did a 6 hour job of detailing last
weekend, including waxing and glossing. I used Autoglym as recommended by
most folks in this forum. While the results are very satisfactory
(compared to KIT that i used previously), I found one problem. I got
bird droppings on my car yesterday and when I found it, it's already dry.
However, knowing that I've just detailed my car, I would have expect it
to be an easy clean. However, it wasn't. After cleaning out the bird
shit, I found a permanent stain on my car. Why is this so? Isn't the wax
and gloss supposed to have protected my car paint work?

Hope someone can help explain this as I'm beginning to loose faith in
Autoglym.

It depends on how polutted the bird is. If the bird flew from an
industrial area, the bird sh** will have a lot of chemical substants no
wax can protect it.

I have been using autoglym for 3 years. And how do i protect my car?
After using the SRP, put a layer of EGP. AND i normalyy put add a few more
layers of EGP. Layering of EGP works....

ic.. yeap, i got the bird shit from industrial area. the EGP i applied is
only 1 layer. i tawt that will be enuf. wah multiple layers of EGP will
take multiple hours to complete! (inc. dry time ~ 1 hour for every layer)

You need to leave it alone for 24hrs to cure before another layer or else
you are just rubbing the previous layer away.

maximus, do u mean i can't expose the car to rain for 24 hours? or is it
applicable only for multiple layers application?

i'm still unsatisfied why 1 layer of EGP can't do the job. it reads on
the label that it's a tough layer that protects the car. however, a 1cm
radius of bird droppings is enuf to cut thru the EGP and leave a stain. [:

The stain is unlikely to be permanent.Dont try to scrub or polish, just
wash the surface, dry it . Leave it alone fore a few days and it will
disappear.

really? how can it dissappear by itself?

i did a wash on the affected area, used autoglym SRP and EGP one more
time on that stained area. however, the stain still there. Frown

shall wait for a few days as what u said.. but i really doubt it.

yep, I leave the car alone for the 24hours after appying sealants i.e. no
washing, no quick detailing, or putting on another layer or even waxing. But
of course if it rains, there's nothing you can do. Water/rain will affect
the durability of EGP if it's exposed to it ,more so before curing
fully/bond to the paint. Don't think of EGP or other sealants as
inpenetrable shield, not surprising a coating thickness less than one
millionth of an inch can't protect against acidic bird droppings. Probably
you could try scratchx from Meguiar as a last resort as it's mildly
abrasive. If you leave the bird dropping on your paint for enough time
(which is not too long in our hot climate), it may even penetrate the
clearcoat . It's good to have a bottle of water + some wet tissues (watson
etc) for bird bombs removal
