Hi everyone, my friend just got his brand new Honda Accord 2010 stolen. It was done discreetly in the middle of the night, park securely in his house. So, I kept wonder, with Honda factory alarm & immobilizer, how that could be done with house gate locked, car door locked and everything.

My first suspicious comes to salesman, I read somewhere before, they would tried their best luck to take or duplicate one of your original keys. So, even with one car key less, given to you at handover when you first purchase the brand new car, the owner wouldn't notice. So, at their leisure, with your address in their hand, they can steal your car after 3 months, or even after 6 months.

Of course, this can be done during oil change too, where sometimes owners just leave their car there for hours. Or, in many other scenarios where owners have to leave their car keys to someone else, and even during this short 5 mins of period, they would managed to duplicate a car key. After that, it's just finding where the owner live to steal at their leisure.

So, I wonder, anyone out there who has ever bought a brand new car, regardless of what model and what year, could you pls give me details of how many car keys you have received, and etc.

Car Model:
Year Made:
# of Car Keys Given:
Immobilizer: Yes / No
Home Address Given to Salesman: Yes / No
Any other alarm or anti theft system:

Anything addition to it is welcome.

I think it is never a good idea to give out details about your car (or house) security in a public forum. The less people know how secured (or not secured) your car/house is, the better.

But I agree that there are risks that salesman, knowing our details and even having once holding our keys, will duplicate our keys to steal our car at a later date. Hence, you might want to add other security measure other than those that came with your car. A lock for your car gear, brake/clutch, or steering wheel would be good. A kill switch for the car engine can be another option. If you would be parking your car for a long time (perhaps going for a holiday, Raya, or CNY), a wheel/tyre lock/clamp can be another option.

Chris.
