Hi Sherman,

I owned a CBU Matrix 1.6 for about 7+ years so probably i can give some input. Throughout the 7 years I don't recall any major problem with the Matrix. There was once my coolant hose leaking and i change the whole hose system, then had the radiator serviced and after that i can't recall there is anymore issue.

Most of the parts i replaced was due to wear after few years, for e.g. engine gasket, brakes, filters, 1 piece of sensor, belts etc. So practically maintaining a matrix is not difficult as long as you follow the maintenance book or send to authorised SC.

For fuel consumption (FC), its quite high comparing to most cars. Mine was drinking like 6.5km/litre for city driving. For highways, its about 9.5km/litre. I guess its due to vehicle weighing too heavy for the 1.6 engine. I heard the 1.8 perform better. But on the other hand, I think the car is very tough due to better exterior material used that's why its heavy. Probably safer than most car when in collision.

As for the cabin, its very roomy and comfortable for the whole family. Its also good for carrying stuffs as the seats can be folded to increase boot size. All in all, its a great car if you don't mind the petrol.

I got one, fairly reliable. Mine is manual, so fuel economy is really good even i commute daily from USJ to/from Bkt Bintang (two of the well known congested places in malaysia). i got more than 14km/liter or around RM0.12/km. With your price, it shouldn't go wrong, but make sure you know the history of the car or send to proper car inspection before commiting.

My 2005 1.6 manual is still working fine. No major problem other than the normal wear & tear.

have used 2 units of matrix from diff manufacture year.

bought a 2nd unit year 2005 with 48k milleage clock at the beginning of the year for rm30500.this is a CKD unit by inokom
the car is fully service in SC by the previous owner.comes with 4 brand new tyre.
other than that i guess all is still original parts from factory.
overall the car have no issue accept the autolock gun on the driver's door spoil due to wear n tear.replaced it.problem solve.
the auto cruise unit thought to be faulty.send to SC to check during service,is just the connector is loose, plug bag, work as usual.

another unit is own by a close fren.
bought brand new last year 2009.local CKD unit.should be the last facelift unit which use most of the 1.8 model accesories.
it comes with 5years or 300k km waranty.

both car performs very good.i notice some diff between this 2 unit.
1. FC on the new unit is better in town drive compare to the 2005 unit.very noticableif u compare the digital fuel meter in the car exspecially when idling the car.(CBU unit dont have this meter)the older model drops very fast.
FC of the new car on highway is about RM0.15 per KM.driving on 140kmh.if u drive slower n keep rpm at 3K would be morefuel saving.

2.power wise,i did notice on the newer unit.it seems like pick up a bit lag when u full throtle the car compare to the 2005 unit.maybe due to ECU setting which made the 2009 unit a bit fuel saving compare to the 2005 unit.

in general, for the price of the 2nd unit,u wont go wrong with this car.just as patrickfam, gigabyte and mr bond said.

but, just a piece of advise for u,if u r using this unit for sales marketing which enquire u to travel a lot n paying a lot of petrol, why dun u opt for the new hyundai i10?have a fren been using it,comfort, safety, power n FC is well proven, plus its 5years or 300,000km warranty.which in ur case i think suits u better.5years peace of mind if anything broke down.
the only negative points of i10 compare to matrix is smaller size.but with 4adults in the i10 is still comfort.u can try it out.go for a test drive.

your fuel consumption is abnormal. my 2003 CBU 1.6 auto matrix seldom go below 10km/l for city driving. driving on highway at ave speed of 110kn/h can get at least 12km/l. it's either ur matrix needs engine tuning or u're a heavy footed driver loh

1) If you get from used car dealer, try to ask for service record, i doubt that they can provide you. Reason is the meter most properly has been adjust to fool the customer. I saw one Citra 08 with 15K millage, when ask for service manual, "Don't Have", the car so new and they claim the owner didn;t provide. Do you believe that? Do you think the owner will keep the book in their house or car? We are not stupid right. comp26.gif

2) Drove 1.8 from KL to Penang twice, yes, it is very comfort car. Just that the boot is a bit small for stuff during travel.

3) About petrol if compare to Kenari, is 3 full tank pump [Matrix 1.8] to 2 full tank pump [Kenari 1.0], for the whole trip. So for travelling related to work like your new job, always aim for better millage car and low cost maintenance car e.g Saga BLM, City iDSL.

4) This car is heavier, so try get a good brake pad or else it will overheat during going down hill smile_wink.gif
