You must test drive else you wouldn't know it smile_thumbup.gif . Just thinking wanna to change my car. I was told next batch is March 2011. Either I've place booking now or wait until next year 2011 March.

Yea there seems to be a trend and it could be their marketing tactic. Was told that Passat CC for 2010 is almost sold out as well so may have to wait till March 2011 for certain colours ....

I mean its either VW is really getting popular or SAs just want to close some deals ....

Saw the Golf 1.4 in flesh today tho boring as it may be, i just think to myself - you are paying 150k for an efficient engineering package

Step aside Beemers and Mercs , Veedub is coming

I believe at sub-RM160k, the Golf TSI is a pretty good buy. Build quality is top notch and leagues ahead of Japanese products of comparable pricing.

VWM advertises this car as "from RM148,888". Can anyone buy this car at that price?

Further, I would like to stress that this amount represents approximately 50 months of average Malaysian salary, which I believe is the most "expensive" in the world. So, is it a good buy? Probably yes. Is it cheap? Definitely, NO! Are you going to get value for money after sales service and care? smile_question.gif smile_question.gif smile_question.gif smile_question.gif smile_question.gif smile_question.gif

Good question on the aftercare, having said that other popular contis suffer from the same image. I wonder if the March delivery has anything to do with the strikes that VW have suffered at their South African plant??

RM148,888 is nett selling price. Once you factor in registration & road tax, it goes to RM156,758.00 (OTR without Insurance)

Insurance further sets you back about RM4,200, based on estimates by our insurance calculator.

I personally never understood why manufacturers quote nett selling price because that is never the sum that the customer pays (unless there has been generous discounting). As much as possible, our test drive reports and new car database quotes prices in full terms OTR with Insurance if possible, OTR without Insurance if necessary.

If we are to be honest, car purchase is not cheap in Malaysia, whichever segment you care to look at. Nevertheless, if you look at offerings at a comparable price, the VW offers impressive levels of equipment and build quality, though not size.

An interesting feature I picked up on the Golf when doing interior photoshooting. There are foot blowers for the rear passengers as well.

Audio systems are not my forte in the subject of car review, so I'll just reproduce what's printed on the brochure
- "RCD 310" radio/MP3/WMA audio system with single disc CD player, 8 speakers

The 'Light & Sound' package included in our test car further adds USB/iPod interface as well.

I test drove the Golf TSI today with 4 adults and 2 small kids on board.

Immediately, I had 2 Civics trying to tempt me into giving them some smoke in their eyes but I really wasn't in the mood.

Amazing car. Simple amazing smile.gif

Negatives - the steering was too light for my liking and the brakes were a tad too snatchy (just a matter of gettting used to them).

Positives - the overall refinement of the vehicle is the best I've sampled in a very long time. The gearbox goes through its gears so well that I simply cannot tell when it changes gears unless I keep an eye on the tachometer. Most of the time, I putter around with the engine ticking at under 2k rpm.

At one point along the test drive route, I had the chance to move off from the traffic lights up a steep incline on a slip road that joins a highway. I put the gearbox in S position, stepped on the gas pedal and the car just moved off as if it was shot from a catapult. No fuss, no drama.

I'm glad I left my credit cards and cheque book at home smile_tongue.gif

ahhh.... my friend that is what we called passion (or is it stupidity, recklessness...) To get something we really desire and passionate about need to sacrifice time, energy and money. I'm sure if the price of golf is say ten times your salary, then I bet the feeling towards the car will be different as compared to if the car is fifty times our salary. Those people earning RM50k to RM100k monthly, their beemers and mercs are just modes of transport, I doubt if they are really passionate about their rides.
