- DSG is quick and smooth shifting
- Engine pulls strongly despite 1.4-litre capacity thanks to turbo and supercharger.
- Build quality is top notch, and better than equivalent-priced Japanese makes.
I'll be taking the car out tonight when traffic clears and also over the weekend for more extensive testing, for now, impressions are excellent.
Looks like none of us can get a test drive this week. Fancy extending your testing to Jay Bee?

Shucks! I could show you some winding roads around Ulu Tiram too!
Went to see the 1.4 Golf today. No leather and 16 inch rims. Inside was okay only. Like the sports-like hugging seats. Somehow, feels a wee bit over-priced to me. Maybe I shall change my mind after a test drive.

you testdrove it? how does it feel? Invited by the sa to see the car @ Goh Brothers Ipoh this afternoon. I must say that it is a very good car, high quality materials used on the car. I like the smoked rims, even got multifunction steering wheel with bluetooth. The SA was friendly, he even showed to me the Golf GTI "let me compare between these two"....

Agree that you must test first. However, dun get carried away with this March 2011 "threat" as it is not a very cheap car and the local principal has no proven track record. If anything, their record is unimpressive, so buyer beware!

Yes, the 2nd batch will arrive in March 2011 but what I did overhear is that the first batch coming in (it comes in several shipments) number into the "hundreds". All of which is targeted to be sold in 2010.
So I won't worry too much about the waitlist.
I've seen the car. Lovely machine. Personally, I like fabric over leather and the wheels are ok with me. In any event, upgrading the wheels is no big issue.
Am scheduled to test drive tomorrow

I believe at sub-RM160k, the Golf TSI is a pretty good buy. Build quality is top notch and leagues ahead of Japanese products of comparable pricing.
You do get reduced equipment compared to a Golf GTI, but you are not being shortchanged either. Dynamic headlights, traction control, 9 airbags, plus an award engine paired with a 7-speed twin clutch gearbox makes it a good value purchase in my books.
However, I agree with pat1988 that as a consumer you should not be held hostage to threats by the salesman, however good the car is. You should always be ready to walk away if the deal is not right. There aren't many VW dealers around, but there definitely is more than one.
