Just sharing... Refer below for the reply from Nissan expert..
"Kindly inform that 15W40 has higher viscosity, suitable to be used for new/old vehicle.
10W40 has lower viscosity compare to 15W40, lower viscosity could provide more smooth engine performance compare to higher viscosity oil, but not so suitable to be used for very old vehicle because old engine has gone through longer wear and tear period on the components inside the engine, the gap between those internal components could be larger compare to new engine, if the gap are larger, low viscosity oil could easy flow through and get burned out inside the combustion chamber, which could easily cause engine oil consumption. "

He can either try to sell it off, or give it away if scare to use. I was given a 20w-50 oil once, so I gave to my in laws to use in his old Ford Laser....
I bought 3 bottle of Castrol GTX 15w-40 oil wor... now still not yet decide whether to use it on my
Grand Livina. Still verify with Nissan expert..

Some engine oil consumption is okay, especially with older engine. My 15 year old Sonata is now on 5w-30, next change is 10w-40. Previously was on 5w-40. My 20 years old VR is still on 5w-40......

Whether it is 5W or 10W does not make much of a difference because our temperatures are consistently high. So the cold engine viscosity should not be affected too much by that rating. If your engine is old, it is better to use a thicker oil for better protection as the engine has more ear and tear - that is why many people use 5W-40 or 5W-50 oils. On new cars, 5W-30 oils are common and in the EU/US, they are to use 5W-20 oils in winter!

That is why I mention 10w-40 and 15w-40 won't make much difference......
