I am driving a Mazda 3 2.0 and the fuel consumption is not super fantastic.

Lately I am trying to upshift via the paddle when the rpm is slightly above 2 k. To my understanding, less rev = less fuel consumption. So I am usually at gear 5 in a very short distance from a complete stop position, and I do notice some improvement in FC though I can't be sure if it's because of the change in driving habit.

Will this damage my car in the long run if I do this frequently? Or is it better to leave it at Auto and go light on the acceleration paddle?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

yes u can save fuel when upshift early.....

but if too early then u tends to dragging your engine..especially during high load (slight uphill/full people onboard) and only will make the FC worse...

then u can try experimenting between those manual upshift or light throttle auto and compare them over the same route everyday for a week..and u should get the answer....(there is no specific answer since driving styles vary for any person) smile_sleepy.gif

RX maybe can. Pajero cannot, coz no effect on the pick up. Only effecting the FC. smile_big.gif

that was true until the low fuel warning sign starts to blink smile_tongue.gif

rallychamp is correct, the best time to upshift is when the engine is running at optimum, not necessary below 2Krpm coz diff engines and gear ratios characteristics set up
