So, in reality for those that own a Peugeot for more than 5 years, what is the real facts of keeping that car in terms of
- durability
- quality
- maintenance cost
- spare parts
- failure rates
For current 407 owner, mind sharing what is your combine driving FC and highway FC ? I noted the car is rather heavy during the test drive.. but once gaining momentum, it is ok.
Hi All Lion owners,
Time flies and hasn't been coming back to this forum for years. Happened to login today and saw my own thread from 5 years ago ( Almost ).
Maybe I can do a follow up on this topics after 5 years of ownership ( Almost ).
- durability & quality
:- The car has been servicing me pretty good until today without giving me much of serious problems. A few minor problem here and there which still considered reasonable.
- My JBL sub woofer has a damaged foam surround which I yet to order sparepart to replace it
- Some noise coming out from rear left area which I yet to identify where the sound came from. Hoping its not the shock absorber
- Some minor hissing sound from driver side door panel, guess minor loosing part on the door panel
- Lamination on the ceiling cushion / panel seems to came off, managed to glue the area where it meeting the windscreen but the center top area is also seem detached from the foam. Haven't know how to deal with it yet.
- Overall not experiencing major issues. ( Touch wood )
- maintenance cost
:- Maintenance cost has been normal for continental car, slightly expensive than Japanese car BUT that is if you compare to sending car to non authorize workshop. If comparing sending back to Authorize SC for other brands, I think the different are not much. This is comparing to my wife's previous Honda City that always going back to Authorize SC
:- The only big Hit i have was when doing my 80K major service and have to change for some major parts, it cost me RM4k++ for the whole 80k servicing. Maybe I got "knock" by the SC supervisor telling me this got to change and that got to change. Have my colleague check with his brother in law that working at Peugeot at KL area, that seems the expected figure if performed according to the 80k schedules
- spare parts
:- So far no major needs for that besides the pulley and some other parts paid during 80K major services
- failure rates / Issues
:- 2 x Batteries failure which is normal battery life spans, 3rd one is using batteries from outside since it saved me about RM200++ comparing to getting one from Authorized SC ( RM230 after trade in old battery vs RM580 to get from SC )
:- Earier issues on Alarm sound off by itself came back lately but only happen for once )
:- Non other failures experienced so far
FC
- Highway drive ~ Average 12.xx KM/L if driving according to speed limit
- Highway drive ~ Average 10.xx KM/L if driving not more than 150km/h
- City drive with daily heavy traffic commuting around 8.9 KM/L
Driving pleasure
- I have not tested / driving other new released car after the 407 beside these
: Peugeot 308
: Mercedes Benz E200
: Honda City
: Volkswagen Beetle
: Mitsubishi ASX 4WD
: Toyota Camry
: Nissan Selphy
: Honda Civic
: Mitsubishi Pajero Sport
: Kia Forte 1.6SX
: Toyota Hilux
: Mitsubishi Triton
In between these cars, I would rate my personal driving pleasure on city / highway as follow ( entirely personal taste )
Mercedes E200 -> Peugeot 407 -> Peugeot 308 -> Pajero Sport -> Honda Civic -> Toyota Camry -> Kia Forte -> ASX -> Selphy -> City -> Hilux -> Triton -> Beetle
Would i regret ?
- Yes and No
Yes, resell value really sucks... I did expected that to happen but just didn't know is a lot worst than I have imagine. This happened because the car markets changed a lot after I bought the 407 and a lot more models are made available to car buyers now. Most are equipped with newer features and technologies. My current needs for a car would be a 4x4 if possible, since could not go for Pajero Sports or Toyota Forturner, has settled with an ASX 4WD as replacement to my wife's Honda City
No, among the car i listed above... its still the 2nd fun driving car either on Highway or city drive especially on the speed pickups and handling
