I saw these cars along MRR2 near Pandan Indah near the flyover. Couldn’t catch up for some OTR shots due to the usual Saturday noon congestion. Was my lucky day, met them again in Shell Station before exiting to Karak Highway. Walked to the guys who claimed to be R&D engineers/test drivers and asked for permission to take some photographs. My wife did it while I spent my precious time introducing myself, and chatted about the car.

Anyway, as you can see:
1. new front bumper ‘like’ Gen.2 CPS, with modified grille (chrome + matte black).
2. new wing mirrors with blinkers, fender blinkers removed.
3. new aerokit including front, side and rear skirts, plus a new spoiler.
4. new alloy wheels, size unchanged.
5. smoked headlamp (like the current Persona SE).
6. all new LED tail lamps (unlike the Envy prototype, which is just an aftermarket product)
7. new audio headunit with wider LCD screen, with unknown features.

What you don’t see here (but informed by the engineers):
8. IAFM engine remains, with new 32bit ECU, that’s equipped with a new sensor (undisclosed function), that handles a wider fueling and ignition mapping, for a more refined performance and fuel economy.
9. special features on the headlamps and cabin lamp, sorta like a timer/dimmer, like the Exora, but only on the HL variant.

On some related development, I am informed about:
10. the NEXT NEW Persona will be based on a new platform, equipped with a ‘new’ engine.
11. Waja replacement model is confirmed and on the pipeline, based on a Japanese model (hope you get my hint).

I like the new wing mirrors.. it does help increase the visibility.

The facelift maybe just a normal upgrade and I think it still fall short of consumer expectations and Persona will not be able to sell overseas. To make Proton Persona the consumer choice against Toyota Vios, Hyundai Avante, Suzuki SX4, Subaru Imprezza.. Proton need to design the car to give more upgradeable options to consumers (you get what you pay for at best prices):

1. 16" rim (chrome or black) and performance tyres
2. Reverse camera / GPS / DVD player
3. Tinting of windows / head lights & tail lights
4. Door edge trimming & door sound proofing to reduce wind noise
5. Wireless tyre pressure monitoring system
6. Digital voltmeter / voltage stabilizer & room temp indicator
7. Smoother gear change / cruise control
8. Fender bars & better anti-roll bar
9. Body kit with roof spoilers
10. 2 layer sound proofing of wheel arch / firewall / roof / bonnet / boot
11. 2 way car alarm with remote start engine
12. 2 tone leather seat / recaro car seat
13. 2 tone wheelskin steering wheel / door trim
14. Adjustable cam pulley
15. K & N drop in filter
16. Lane change assist/blind spot assist gadget
17. Forward collision warning / Following distance indication gadget
18. Philips X-treme power bulbs or HID / angel eyes / eyelid
19. VIP styling - leather / chrome accessories
20. Better quality spark plug / spark plug cables / ignition stabilizer
21. Painted brake caliper (red, blue or gold) or brake caliper cover
22. Customised dash mat in addition to 3M floor car mat
23. Rear windscreen wiper / rain sensing wipers / silicon wiper blades
24. Better power windows
25. Heads Up Display gadget
26. Better quality brake pads
27. Rust proof brake rotors
28. Mud flaps / splash guard
29. Car bra / carbon fiber bonnet / matt black car wrap
30. Shark fin antenna with led
31. Non-glaring 300mm rear view mirrors
32. Brake light flasher

With the abovementioned, I believe this will create new businesses for proton partners and suppliers.

Proton will not be installing some of the devices but will approve the aftermarket suppliers and installers without voiding the warranty. Like I say, this will increase business for partners and suppliers. Consumers may have wider choices and options.

The main problem now is that Proton will say that warranty is void when consumers messed up the car electrical system or replace stock items. This is not consumer friendly at all!

If normal car.. BLM.. for performance car.. need performance parts.. you get what you pay for.

If upgradeable options is given, the Persona market segment can also be increased from a normal family car to a SPORTY PERFORMANCE family car for singles as well.

Would you buy a Proton car if you know that the power windows would not last and the car will easily get rusted? Or would you enjoy driving a car that produce high wind noise, vibrations and give inaccurate handling or lacking safety features?

i believe R3 motorsport division produce all the performance part for proton cars w/o sacrifying the warranty but sadly, lots of us do not know how to contact them.. AFAIK, they do take special order & custom made.. but the issue remains on how to contact them..

but its kindda cool to make the special spec version that what honda do with civic type-R, mitsu with the evo's and subaru with their sti's.. proton also last time got their R3 high spec version of GTI-s & Neos but still it is in limited quantity...

imho, i don't think that they got the capacity for mass production of high spec performance car right now.. u need to prove something to back up ur reason to do this kind of thing.. built up repo on motorsport, world class racing competition, get the market to acknowledge the brand is manufacturing a car that can compete in world class motorsport. hope that in near future, proton will enter more world class championship racing, winning is one thing but lets the market know that they can also race.. if not can tapau or let people that are more serious in automotive industries take over.

the company just been a sitting duck for the rest of 20 yrs and now just realize that it can swim and fly abit.. angry.gif

Not fortis. But the bigger sibling.
