Was flipping through a brand new Toyota car owner manual. On one of the front page, it says every 10,000-km. On one of the back page for service recording, it says 5,000-km. So what is the "official" OCI to comply with warranty?

There was an official notification from UMW that the OCI for Vios was extended from 5,000 to every 10,000 km. Owners also receive a letter to this effect. Hence I think the higher range (altis, camry) owners would have been similarly notified.

Toyota owners can perform servicing at 10,000km intervals, provided with the use of Toyota Genuine Motor Oil.

The fully synthethic and semi synthetic last for 10,000km, even the premium mineral-based oil now last for 10,000km. Of course, it will degrade faster than synthetic oil but it will not affect warranty of the engine. So its up to u when using TGMO mineral whether u want to change at 5K or 10K. The difference of mineral and semi synthetic oil in terms of price is only RM20.

The oil filter is also designed to last for 10,000km.

With ATF change not due until 80,000km (using World Standard ATF Type T IV) while the coolant first change is only at 160,000km, look forward to hassle free motoring.

I though the change interval for the ATF is 40,000 Km? I change mine at 40,000 Km and I use the world standard ATF type IV.

The new car manual I mentioned was for a Camry. But I notice the service record section clearly mentioned 5000-km OCI. So I was assuming, to comply with warranty condition, it has to be done every 5000-km.

this applies to new Avanza, new Vios, new Altis and new Camry

check with toyota svc personnel if its ok to skip the 5K svc and come at every 10K interval. but make sure check the battery water level (for non-MF) as well as all other fluids.

If you do want to be cheated by UMWT...any good (genuine) semi-synthetic engine oil use for 10,000 km will be enuf.

FYI, Toyota Genuine Motor Oil (TGMO) = Pennzoil. They aren't the same quality/league as Mobil, Shell and Castrol. I haven't even compare with the more establish ones such as Chemlube, Redline, Chevron, Motul, Total, Q8, Conoco, etc.

Cheating or not cheating is NOT the question. The question is, which OCI should you follow to maintain warranty intact.

And please, don't take SC word for it. Only what is printed in Black & White will stand up in legal term when it comes to warranty claim.

And also, good mineral are documented to last 70,000 - 120,000-km (Scania 15W40). Of course, the final word still belongs to the car manufacturer. If Toyota did not specify FS or Mineral, it means BOTH will do. To say other wise is just being ignorant.

The service interval is 10,000km now be it mineral oil or semi or fully. The argument stops here. Thanks.

The service interval is 10,000km now be it mineral oil or semi or fully. You want to service at 5000km also can. No one stops you. Warranty still stands at 10,000km interval. What about Honda or Nissan, is it at 5000km ? Thanks.
