I've been facing intermittent problems with my automatic gear going crazy. It only happens first thing in the morning. The car will suddenly jerk violently and the gear will not shift. I need to stop the car and restart it for everything to return to normal. I've got a 3 year old Picasso and am kinda worried that it is something serious. But strangely it only happens in the morning and when I'm travelling on a highway. Please help. Thanks.

I used to have this issue for about a few months (many years back), but eventually it was solved by Brooklands. But, you need to really talk to the right engineer or technician. I think they change some sort of valve or what.

Hope this helps.

Yep, the solution perhaps is to replace of the gearboxes two solenoid valves. If I'm not mistaken in Australia, Peugeout/Citroen had earlier issued a manufacturer's recallled to replace these valves for model pre 2005. My Picasso is post 2005 production model so I don't encounter this problem even after 4 years + (170,000 km) of hard used. A friend of mine (C8 owner) had it replaced in Kuantan (Independent Citroen specialist) for under RM 1K (parts/labour/ ATF oil)

First thing first, maybe it's just the ATF oil needing a change, I changed mine every 40000km, jut to be on the safe side

Bros...Thanks for the help. I've scheduled an apppointment with Brooklands to fix the problem. Surprisingly this problem only happened after I serviced the car. I thought they would change the gear fluids during service. I guess not. Let's see what they say on Wednesday. Thanks folks.

Well, I am not surprised. My C5 experienced the same hell too. My car broke down in USj and had to be towed to Beruklands. Initially, no issue before i serviced the car. I simply brought it to Brooklands a week earlier for diagnostic check. However, they have reset everything in it and I start seeing Automatic Gear Fault error. According to them, it's wiring related and the Multiflex switch need to be replaced. But they told me to drive around and observe all the errors. Almost a week later, the car stalled at 'P' mode. The gear can't be engaged. So, it had to be towed. There in Beruklands, they took 5 days to replace a simple 'Multiflex control switch' and it cost me RM700. Ouch. That's not all, they came out with a quotation of rm10k to replace my front absorbers and mountings. My car is only 71kkm mileage. Anyone here knows any good and cheap mechanics - probably I could go to the Klang guy. smile.gif
