There are more Alfa Romeo enthusiasts.
Try look for a proffesional alfa mechanic to check your car, it might be the lower arm problem.
Did you replace your front lower arms before?

tried registering to italiaauto... gave up after a while..
replaced the lower arms end of last year.. they should still be OK..
been driving a 156 v6 for more than 9 years.. used to have the sedan and now a SW.. the bottoming-out-thingie never really bothered me coz i guess i got used to it after a while........ until i got a mkV gti..
still in love with my alfalfa... all i want is to make her better..

any brand should do, i was using HotBits coilovers from Speedworks, serviceable at RM80 per piece so dun need to replace the shocks ever again, and tunable, damping and height to my liking. Solved the bottoming out problem as well.. concluded that the normal spring and shocks combination, regradless eibach, novitec springs and whatever shocks was never satisfactory...

Duuhhh, have long sold my 156, but i had coilovers on my ex-Satria as well, Worth the money. There are other choices of locally made coilovers other than HotBits, like HWL.
For 156, HotBits starts at RM2,800/- , at that price you get adjustable height with a choice of fixed damping, either comfort, sports or super sports setting. Price goes up from there if you want additional stuff like helper springs, adjustable damping, adjustable top mount etc. I was on the one with helper springs on comfort setting and was very happy with it. Wanted to try add on the adjustable damping but never got round to doing that cos i sold the 156 and got a 147 and transferred the coilovers to the 147 and later sold the147 complete with the coilovers.

Hi Taj,
Seems you used to own 2 models of Alfa's before. Am still considering to get a used one, but rather intimidated by "talks" that parts are expensive and hard to get. Would you share your experience?
Are there capable and reliable independent mechanics in major towns in Peninsula Malaysia?
Regards

chemat,
I've owned 9 Alfas thus far, currently have a '97 Spider and a '77 Alfetta. No problems with maintenance if you practise preventive maintenance and send it to a reliable specialist. Spare parts are also available and not that expensive and you must know where to look as well. Other stuff can order thru the net.
there are many capable and reliable Alfa specialists out there, join the Alfa forums and ask, you can go to www.arocmalaysia.com or www.italiaauto.net for more info.. there are workshops and spare parts shops listings...
