Just bought a used one about 2 mths now. Its petrol. I have experienced
the gear indicator on the dashboard selecting all the positions, P,N,R,D
including the manual up&down position. Everytime this happens, after the
car have been driven or less than 10 minutes in a relative < 30deg C
temperature and no traffic jam conditions. It will also blinks at times.
It appears to be stuck in one gear. When I move the manual mode, there is
no gear position indicated. But still can drive, presummably this is limp
mode? Stop the car and restart it again, everythign appears to OK now. So
far happen twice already in 2 months.
Appreciate anyone who an share their experience with this vehicle or
similar ones. Thanks.

It may be the gear multiselector problem. Call Steven at 0163907101. He's an experienced mechanic who can probably solve the problem for u.

I have change the ATF and I suspect overfilling to be the culprit (it
seems to be that). I use Tutela GI/E. This should be good enough. So far
so good and the occasioal harshness in gear change has been reduced
significantly. Will see if this solves the problem completes. Thanks all
for the suggestions.

The problem happened again this morning. So that means its not the oil and
its not the qty of the oil. But the common thing is it always happen when
it upshifting in a downhill and just after 5 minutes drive and in the
morning (or cold?). Heard from Ulysse II owner that he has the same
problem. Will update later. If anyone has any similar experience,
appreciate if you can share. Thanks.

hi,
my friend with an auto ulysse have this problem before. the gear hunts and
even the clock showing wrong time. this is the symptom that your battery is
dying. try to fully recharge the battery and install a voltage regulator.
he have installed a voltage regulator and the problem is solved.

Hi,
This site may be helpful to understand what's troubling your gearbox. My
problem solved with RM1,500 at Hi-Tech Recond Sg. Pencala - changed
solenoid valves, transmission fluid...etc. warranty 3 mths/1000 km. so far
5,000 km already, very smooth.

Update. I can reproduce the problem now.

Tried servicing the multi function switch, still happens. So the MFS is
not the cause.

To reproduce the gearbox going into safe mode (gear position indicator in
dashboard flashing), try this. Car must have been not driven for at least
8 hrs or more (simulating over night parking). Then start engine, allow 10
seconds warm up and start driving slowly (like you normally do in the
morning). You have to look for min. 40 deg slope (up or down, in my case
it was downhill). As you approach this slope, hold the gear in 2nd gear
and rpm below 2,300rpm for about 100 metres before the slope. When you are
starting to descent the slope, continue but do not let the rpm exceed
2,500 rpm, must be below. Press on the accelerator pedal slightly and the
rpm should go up a bit to force the gear change to 3rd gear. This should
will cause a the problem. well, at least in my case.

Appreciate of you can share your experiences as well. Let me know if you
try this procedure above if you can. At least, its a small step closer to
solving this problem (before embarking on spending $$$).

Update. I believe my problem solved. The culprit was insufficient ATF oil
in the first place (before my time). Added 200ml of the same ATF
progressively, till I added additional 1.5 litres. This seems to be
optimum now. So far 8 days of driving, various conditions, and also cannot
simulate the problem anymore. The flashing gear indicator on the dash is
no longer there. This is just for my case, not sure about yours but you
might to diagnose if your problems are related to this.

The problem you will face is, there is no way to measure if you have about
4 litres of ATF in the first place. When you drain, only 2.2 litres come
out.

The lack of ATF oil can actually caused irregular pressure regulation
issues with the GB. This was actually recorded in the TCU trouble codes
log when we examined it using the computer diagnostic interface. Off
course, there could be other things like the EVM solenoids. But for now, I
will just run for another week more before trying other things to improve
the gear change. Its actually smooth now but occasionally, I do get slight
shudders during gear change.

For the those of you with this problem, you can try this. Its a lot
cheaper than dropping the GB. If all fails, then of course, dropping it is
only the logical option.
