BTW, after reading thro the forum, I realised that eventhough the warranty for the car is for 3 years or 100k km (whichever comes 1st), it is not applicable to all parts. Few parts only cover for a year with limited km eg, the battery, brake disc etc. Now, how the hell wud we know which parts are warranted for 1 year, 2 or 3 and its equivalent km since its not written anywhere in the service booklet. I think we shud get this info from Nasim, well by right it shud be given to all owners when the car is handed over.
For eg. in your case Allan, had u known that the battery is warranted for 1 yr or 20k km, I'm sure u wud have checked your battery when it reached 11.5mth or 19500km to make sure it's still ok, if not u wud go to BB SC to have it replaced FOC. Same case applicable to all parts, had we known the parts are drawing near to warranty expiry, we wud get them check and replace if necessary so that we can avoid parts breakdown just after the warrnty ended. But how can we get the list? Is nasim willing to give us the details?
Usually if you owned enough cars and dealt with car dealers often enough, you would find that they will try to weasel out of their warranty obligations when given the chance. By not listing out the terms or parts covered by the warranty clearly, it opens the door for ambiguous interpretation of the warranty's terms and conditions.
That being said, wear and tear are not covered so the usual suspects like brake pads are not. However, most parts tend to have a minimum lifespan. That is if a brake disc is to break down within 3 years it is usually not wear and tear, speaking from my experience. So it is, I hate to say this, your job to prove the items you are claiming warranty on are not damaged due to wear and tear.
In regards to Alan's experience with his battery warranty issue, it is complete baloney. Most batteries are covered by 2 year warranty, at least the "good ones" or most OEM batteries in european cars. However, I am hardly surprised by his ordeal since I myself have to argue with Tan Chong to get them to replace the battery on my dad's Renault Scenic. It was stated and printed on the battery itself that it comes with 2 years limited warranty but Tan Chong kept insisting it was not. How can they tell such a bold-faced lie?
Therefore it is up to us the consumers to be determined in making them honor their warranty obligations and stand our ground if our claims are legit and within our rights.
