Hi ezairi,

I changed my disc brake around 110k km where I got them changed at bluebox glenmarie about 2-3 weeks ago. They also told me that the disc brake almost finish. All the 4 disc brakes and brake pads were replaced and it cost me about RM1800 :-(

According to the Manager in Glenmarie, he told me that my brake squeaking noise while my car is moving is due to my disc brake becoming too thin. my mileage is 60k kms.

ezairi,

RM 500 per disc only?

Hi,

To replace your brake disc after 100K km is quite a good thing to do. And not weird or fishy.
I had mine replaced (the front disc set) somewhere at around that mileage. Had to change the brake pads too. Using a used brake pads with a brand new disc is not the best / smartest thing you can do. But i'm not sure if its wrong or whatnot.

The reason for the change? The disc thickness has exceed the minimum threshold and all sort of irrirating things have been happening.

The rule of when to change a brake disc is quite straight forward.

Its all depend on the original thickness of the disc.

Let say the original thickness when new is 20mm.
When the thickness go below 18mm (i.e. 17.99mm and below) its time to change the disc in order to maintain the proper braking operation and performance.

basically, 2mm lost in thickness mean the disc is worn (1mm per side) and need to be changed.

If your new disc thickness is 22mm, the minimum thickness for the disc is 20mm.

This is Peugeot recommendation, at least applicable to the 206.

To measure your disc thickness DIY, you can use an outside caliper or (angkup luar in Malay). Better still if you have a Vernier caliper.

refer here is see a picture of them:

Good luck finding it for yourself!

Note: I'm not so sure if the 2mm rules applied to the rear disc too. Hope anyone can confirm this.

My total cost to replace front brake discs and pads: RM390

Brake pads RM130 - Peugeot Singapore
Brake discs RM 260 - Peugeot Singapore

Labour charge - free, because I change myself and is easy to do.
See how i did it - http://tysontalenta....brake-pads.html

Naza KL quoted me over RM700 for the whole thing... needless to say I didn't bother buying from them!
