for old vios (NCP42), every 80K is a super major (the 40K, 120K and 200K also a major)

all the fluids need to be changed. all the filters need to change also

among the fluids
1. engine oil
2. power steering oil
3. brake fluid (every 20K)
4. ATF (flush every 2 times change is good enough)
5. radiator coolant

among the filters
1. oil filter (every 10K)
2. air filter
3. fuel filter (every 80K)

in order to reduce cost of maintenance,

just change EO and OF as well as ATF.

replace air filter is you often drive in dusty areas

change brake fluid once the colour no more clear but black or dark brown
same goes to coolant. if still red, can keep using. dark brown or black only need to change.

its a whole differetnstory for the later vios (NCP93)

first ATF change is at least 80K (under severe use like 1 hour highway speed every day)
first coolant change is at 160K.
no power steering fluid - its using EPS

Thanks for the input guys!

I plan to change EO, OF, ATF outside SC, to save cost. smile_big.gif

Is the genuine toyota parts easily available at spare parts shop?

when fuel filter is clogged with impurities, it will also cause the fuel injector to clog.

first symptom is slightly loss of power, due to spray pattern changes (the injectors) and this will affect FC also.

secondly when the injectors are badly clogged, the engine will jerk. so car owners will need to change the fuel filter and service the injectors too...

however, if none of the symptom is happening, its a safe bet not to change the fuel filter.

Well, just finished service my wife's Vios @ 80K...The total cost was around RM1K... smile_blackeye.gif
Maybe, didnt do some of the required services @ 40K...I went to Toyota sc cause the warranty period is still there and there is some faulty parts like faulty power window and fuel regulator problem that I want to claim.
After the warranty period, I would not go back to Toyota SC...
Just like changing brake pad, i do it outside and it only cost half of Toyota SC price.

I did my 120km service outside shop....just gearbox service done by UMWSC.

Here is what happen outside shop service.

1) Engine belt squeaking.
History: Changed both oledi but still squeaking.
Mechanic: I've change for you one of the engine belt last month, but belt is still squeaking, it must be the other belt.
Me: Can't be, I change that 3 months ago at another shop
Mechanic: If you change with me sure no sound one....
ME: No need, i'll get it adjusted somewhere else.

2) Front brake disc
History: Not many ppl can actually capable of changing the front pads...even the hardcore ones make a mess of it.
So, the spring plate that makes the screeching noise that indicates pads finish is often bent by most mechanics. This makes the spring indicator useless.
Mechanic: Your rear brake pad finish oledi, thats why making so much noise
Me: oii..the noise is coming from the frontlah, you need to adjust the spring metal plate back into shape.
Mechanic: No...its the rear pads..its finish
Me: OK then, I did bring a rear brake pad along.
(I know this trick cause kena many times..so I was prepared..but actually, the rear pads were finish as he said)
Mechanic: Change oledi, no more noise...
Me: OK i test drive...oii..still got noiselah...and its from the front
Mechanic: Yes, now the front also making noise, I can change for you.
Me: I change oledi 6 moths ago...
Mechanic: No need to argue, you change with me the original one sure no more sound.
Me.: yeah right...never mind then...every one say theirs is original

3) Checking the engines condition
History: 120km..need major service (gearbox oledi done in UMWSC). So I needed to change the engine oil and check the engine and other parts of the body like UMWSC checklist.
Me: Can you check the engine condition like spark plug, timing, etc
Mechanic: Why need to check?...If wanna check spark plug better change to new onelor...why take the trouble to check?
Me: Never mind then

4) Suspension making noise
History: Its the anti roll bars cushion, change the right side, now the left side is making noise.
Me: Can you check for me the rubber cushion whether its worn off or not, if worn off i wanna change it.
Mechanic: I know abt this problem, you have to change your absorber.
Me: I change oledilah 6month back at another shop. Why is it so hard to make you understand. Its the anti roll bar cushion.

And the list goes on and on...

One thing came to my mind....

Next service I'm going back to UMWSC!!...Yes, its darn expensive, but at least you are satisfied, if not satisfied you can screw them up, they dun mind.
Other shop its a different story, they screw you instead!! smile_blackeye.gif

thanks alldisc. think so gonna get the fuel filter changed at 90k km service next two weeks. will be changing the brake pads too for the very first time since new(3.5years old now) and maybe get the discs skimmed, a bit warped surface but no judders yet during high speed braking. just felt it when i brake softly at low speeds. what do u think?

very well-described and i totally understand your situation. i still stick with UMWSC though the car would be 4 years old in about 3 months' time. im still satisfied with their service all this while smile_thumbup.gif
