Everyone at A1 Team Malaysia is deeply saddened by the tragic death of Henry Surtees, 18 year-old son of former A1 Team Great Britain principal, John Surtees. Surtees’ son died after a racing accident at Brands Hatch circuit in Kent, Great Britain last weekend.

Jack Cunningham, Chief Executive, A1 Team Malaysia: “Our heartfelt condolences go to John Surtees and his wife Jane. I, and many of our team, got to know John through his involvement with the A1GP series heading up Team GBR. Much of the success that Team GBR had in the first two seasons was due to the team that John built around him. Away from the track he worked tirelessly to promote the new series and for the interests of Team GBR.

He was an exemplary role model for his son. With Henry showing great promise as a racing driver, it was natural that John would soon step down to guide Henry - I am sure he would have gone on to the highest levels of our sport. Our thoughts are with John and his family at this very difficult time.”
