Both Sylphy and Altis have its own limitation.

SYLPHY

Fact 1 :

Sylphy cannot achieve FC of 26km/ltr in city drive. At best is 11km/ltr (Info from Motor Trader).

Fact 2 :

Sylphy cabin is very small compare with other of the same cc.

Fact 3 :

Non of you people has experienced with Sylphy CVT transmission yet comment how good it was.

Fact 4 :

Sylphy is over price (taking into consideration of TCM's infamous over-trade method) compare with others of the same segment.

ALTIS

Fact 1 :

FC deteriortated from average 13km/ltr to 11km/ltr. Comparing current GEN to its predecesor.

Fact 2 :

Trim now come with fabric vs leather. Cost cutting issue.

Fact 3 :

Interior setting remains unchange since 2002 model. Cost cutting issue again.

Fact 4 :

Most market now having Dual - VVTi & 4AT version. Cost cutting issue again.

Fact 5 :

Paying more for less.

Fact 6 :

Car performance deteriorate once change to new battery. ECU reset to factory standards. Only UMWT is able to reset it. Otherwise, u get thirsty car.

CONCLUSION - All cars have its pro & cons la.

Any effect if ECU reset to factory standards ? And how much UMWT will charge if reset by them ?

Hi Ring,

What they claimed on Sylphy 16km/L is achievable when cruising smoothly on highway without much being blocked by slow moving vehicles. Already tested in city traffic for its 2.0L it could achieve just what most 2.0L cars could get at 9.0-9.4km/L only. Not much different from Camry 2.0E & Accord 2.0VTi. Current Altis 1.8 could still defend its FC title at 11-12km/L in traffic congestion. Sylphy cabin is just too narrow, not to say small but wasted its excess space.

Yes, I agree that it is quite overpriced due to greed and giving empty shell. That's why some are choosing to wait hoping that it'll come with 2ZR-FE dual VVT-i engine & new gearbox 1 day. Either in the facelift version or its new replacement in future.

People still buy because there's only 1 trusted car that they could go for at RM110k and most would go for 1.8E rather than waste cash to go for 1.8G. Good thing about Altis is that it comes with 60:40 splitfold and high reliability & durability + practicality. Other than that, nothing.

But most cars are tuned to just default factory settings. Unless you prefer custom tuned output then you'll definetely need to visit SC to change battery. They'll save the data 1st b4 replace battery and after refitting new battery, they'll tune it back to your required settings. Normal charge for using the diagnostic tools would be between RM40-80.

When there's a car seems to be lighter than all of its competitors, it'll be either it cut a lot of cost by giving much less thing or it uses new lightweight material. When you don't find any new lightweight material that could only mean they removed much ingredient that gives the car lighter weight. Conti & higher quality build cars are usually little heavier than so called empty shell because they give you multi-link that is heavier than torsion beam, more soundproof materials and better stronger more solid materials. Compare the weight of Altis, Sylphy, Civic, Lancer, Mazda3, Focus, Pug308, Pug407, etc. Which is the lightest and which is heaviest. What makes the lightest so light?

Is the ECU from Altis dumb, that it cannot learn the driving conditions and adjust to it? I guess my old SEG ECU is still smarter. Or is it that the statement about needing to have it set by the SC to get it's 'optimum' setting a wrong fact?

I only know that Pug and some conti cars have that. Most Jap cars don't as they don't want trouble when these things getting old. Besides, SC could take this opportunity to make money from tuning. SEG ECU is just very basic, more air inject more fuel, less air inject less fuel. Less logic involves.

The new generation ECU has got learning functions that adapts to individual driver's style. Once battery is removed, the settings return to original factory default. My experience with the ACV camry, once battery removed, the engine idles roughly. Only way to set the ecu is to drive continuosly for at least 15 minutes, normally the engine should return to normal after a couple of days driving to within a weeks time.
