But too bad..as a Volvo fan & Volvor car owner... think that Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) are playing too "safe" marketing strategy (beside Volvo are safe car) here in Malaysia by introduced this under power 2.0L N/A models pairing with such wonderful design GB that is consider a waste for a 145bhp power train without turbo... ( for us, Volvo have to be a turbo engine otherwise it wouldn't consider as a Volvo ).

We are fully understand what VCM are targeting on their potential customers to be those that are also consider Camry or Accord...as this group of buyers are form a high percentage in the new mid range executive car buyers. but seem like VCM had forgot on their existing Volvo owners that alway prefect a safe car pairing with a reasonable power out put with turbo charge like T4, T5 or even R...or at least 2.0T ! even many of current S40 2.4i owners had complain their car are under power on certain aspect and many was looking for power upgrade ( but unfortunately 2.4i ECU are too "lazy" be to upgrade ) and now with this new powershift clucth GB VCM should introduce it with higher power engine models...and hope VCM are consider that.

Wow.. they really are replacing the current 2.4i to 2.0? Another cost cutting strategy is it? Seems like VCM is going backwards though the clutch is a more advanced one, but less power for an S40? Though I am normally a more sedate driver, sometimes on highway I can feel the exhilaration of power rushed in, the 2.4i can really handle it very very well. Its a pity it will no longer be available soon sad.gif

On the bright side, hope our 2.4i models will not see the price drop as much as it should that it is now a limited item smile.gif

Does the Volvo engine have VVT?

I test drove the S40 2.0L Powershift yesterday.

I must say I still prefer the S40 2.4L. The powershift is smooth but whole car is really underpowered. For that price, I think it's not worth. If the price is brought down to below 150k, then one can consider.

For those owners of s40, can you share your experience? If you are given a second chance, would you have gone for the same car?

I hear alot of horror stories about Volvo's maintenance cost, and the ride is not particularly outstanding, given the price. Is this true?

Safety is a big factor for me and so I am considering stretching my budget for s40. Having said that, with the Accrod, Camry and Mazda 6 in the same price bracket, I am just hesitating whether this choice is really worth it, particularly Mazda 6 which is also NCAP 5 star.

hmm...I guess it would be a tough choice for VCM too, since some people like smaller engine with better fuel saving and lower road tax, but some people might doesn't care much about road tax and fuel saving problem... conclusion: nothing's perfect... smile_big.gif If VCM could lower the price a bit for the reason of replacing a smaller engine, I think it would be greatly welcome by Volvo lovers and even possible of grabbing some potential buyers from Accord/Camry2.4 ...

Looking at the engine specs, I am unfazed by it....4-pot vs the 2.4i 5-pot...totally unexciting

The only 2 interesting improvements I find with it are the keyless drive and all new 6 speed gearbox.

I think alot of Volvo drivers will be staying away from this. For me, eagerly awaiting the all new S60....2011 maybe?

Btw, I noticed that the used car prices for S40 2.4i in the newspaper's classifieds seems to have "gone up"

I am now in the new volvo showroom looking at the new s40 2.0 while waiting for my car to be serviced. What i can say is that the keyless entry is soooo unexpectedly ugly. They just put one permanent key into the keyhole of the car. Not like the push button of the s80. Bulging and very ugly. One still have to turn to start the car. Kinda useless extra.

Blind spot camera is nice to have but not that important for me. The powershift clutch nice to have. But i dont feel how it drives yet. Dont really feel like going for testdrive. What i heard is that everybody is complaining on the less power vs the 2.4. And its confirmed the 2.4 will no longer be in production in s40, but c30 will still use that engine.

In conclusion, disappointing update. But i am lookng forward to new s60 in 2011.
