Articles for this week: (8/8/2009 - 14/8/2009)

It has been a crazy month in the industry, as all the players are rushing their events and launches to conclude before the puasa month. This one week represented my biggest output thus far, of 11 articles. I hope there isn't any loss in quality!

Emzine

- Tough to D-Max (10/8/2009)

- DRB-Hicom Amazing Hunt in Lake Kenyir (11/8/2009)

- Two wild Jags unleashed: XFR & XKR (13/8/2009)

- MIREX '09 opens in MIECC, Mines (13-16 Aug 2009) (13/8/2009)

- Proton Exora gets four-star MyVAP safety rating (14/8/2009)

Blog

- Ford Everest Launched for Malaysia! (10/8/2009)

- New look for Hyundai Grand Starex Royale (10/8/2009)

- Swedish Marque Brings in Volvo Expert to Perform Inspection (11/8/2009)

- Honda Malaysia hosts EiMAS training course (12/8/2009)

- Ford Ranger XL (13/8/2009)

- Pictures: MIREX ‘09 Day 2 (14/8/2009): This of course, is no article, but just some pictures from the MIREX exhibition to share with you guys.

Next Week..

Is going to be just as packed. Hyundai has scheduled a media test drive session for the i30, but don't expect a detailed report from there. The norm with these media test drive events is that because everyone wants time with the car, no one actually has enough time for a verdict. I will give some preliminary impressions at most. We're looking to arrange for a longer term test car from Hyundai.

I can also tell you that a new Alfa is coming next week.

Hey Gunner!! smile_big.gif

Very nice articles on the Equus & Genesis smile_thumbup.gif
I've saved 'em up. Things will be better if you could include the specs as well. I like the part on the 2-point lap seat belt minus factor. So nice that you get into both cars. During roadshows, both cars were locked up and the windscreens are quite darkly tinted causing reflection that many can't even see through the windscreen clearly.

Every time when close to any celebration, they'll be lots of activities amongst car companies especially Raya Promotion Lately offering gifts and discounts. Plus, some would shop for cars for nice balik kampung trip.

I didn't get a complete set of the specifications, but I didn't feel I need to, as we won't be seeing these cars on the road anyway. The whole idea was to convey how much Hyundai has improved as a manufacturer since say 5-10 years ago.

I must say I was pretty impressed with the interior of both cars. Hyundai has really been stepping up their game. They're not kidding about aiming to be among the top manufacturers.

The only disappointing thing was that the cars were not shown under very good lighting, making it very tricky for us to take good pics of the car.

Yeah, we haven't been getting any announcement of such promos to be disseminated, but we will be keeping our eyes and ears open.

Thanks for the support!! smile_thumbup.gif

I recently received this comment on an article in the Blog. It was my article on the Mustang Customizer site.

QUOTE
Krys (27/8/2009)

While it was interesting to learn of this customization tool, this article is so wrong on so many levels I don’t even know where to begin. First of all the Mustang most certainly didn’t start the muscle car phenomenon. As a matter of fact a true muscle car enthusiast would slap you just for calling a Mustang a muscle car. Its not! It did, however start the ” Pony Car” phenomenon, which is it’s correct classification. Another thing, are you suggesting that in over 50 years, which is a more correct estimate of how long this model has been around, that there have only been 5 different Mustang models? Because that is a ludacris statement. As example, since I am not in fact a true mustang enthusiast and therefore dont know ever model, there is the new 2010 model, the previous model which came out around 2005, the terminator model of the early 2000’s, the more feminine appealing mid to late 90’s model and my favorite the fox body of the late 80’s early 90’s. No offense intended but you seriously should do at least a little fact checking before writing an article making so many incorrect claims.

And, here's my reply.

Hi Krys,

Thanks for the comment. Allow me to answer.

“While it was interesting to learn of this customization tool, this article is so wrong on so many levels I don’t even know where to begin.” - thanks for pointing out.

“First of all the Mustang most certainly didn’t start the muscle car phenomenon. As a matter of fact a true muscle car enthusiast would slap you just for calling a Mustang a muscle car. Its not! It did, however start the ” Pony Car” phenomenon, which is it’s correct classification.” - I don’t think a slap is necessary, but I admit my error here. I had confused between the two classifications and made a blunder.

“Another thing, are you suggesting that in over 50 years, which is a more correct estimate of how long this model has been around, that there have only been 5 different Mustang models?” - The most accurate answer is forty-five years, but I was taking poetic licenses with the statement. I did state the year of the first Mustang’s production to be in 1964. However, I didn’t say there were five models of the Mustang, I stated there were five model generations of the Mustang. There’s a difference there. For each generation, there would have been several model revisions and facelifts. For example, the 2005 and 2010 Mustangs are both based on the same platform and mechanicals, and thus belong to the same generation.

“No offense intended…” - none taken. I’ll openly admit that I’m pretty new to the field, as such, I will happily accept whatever criticisms on my path to improvement. I appreciate you taking your time to point out my errors. I will not retract the article, as it is published, but I will leave your comments here together with mine so that readers will have a full view of the available facts.

“… but you seriously should do at least a little fact checking before writing an article making so many incorrect claims.” - point taken.

I have to admit that this comment was quite a slap in my face, as it serves to remind me on how much I still have to learn in my journey as a writer.

On reflection, I must admit that the errors I committed in the article were very basic & amateurish, and could have been avoided with deeper research.

It is quite tempting to use excuses like 'lacking experience', or 'even the best make mistakes', but deep inside I feel that basic factual errors cannot be deemed acceptable, new or not.

But, what's done is done. All I can do now is to work harder and ensure such a mistake would not be repeated again. smile_approve.gif

ur lancer write-up a bit dark for the picture

Bro, I was looking back at my earlier works with another monitor, and I see what you mean.

The photos for the Lancer write-up looked fine in my laptop and also my office desktop, but now I come to view it from my home PC, I see that a few of the pics from this write-up, and also the Accord 2.0 VTi-L launch were quite badly under-exposed.

QUOTE (TheGunner @ Jul 31 2009, 09:23 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
DC18, I'm using a D60. The camera is actually OK, what I need is an upgraded flash with a light diffuser.

Currently, I'm using the camera's built-in flash, so my options at night are a little limited. The problem with built-in flashes is that the pictures come out with the subjects overlighted and overexposed, whereas the background remains dark.

To counter this problem, I've had to either turn off the flash, or use slow mode for the flash.

I'm actually quite happy with the shots of the car's exterior, but shooting the interior was quite difficult. I could have used 'Auto' mode, which would have brightened up the car, but then it would have failed to capture the ambience of the
surrounding as well.

For example, the shot below was taken with the flash on. Notice the bumper of the Grandis is overlighted and does not quite match with the ambience.

Or consider this shot of the Grandis' interior and compare to the one I posted in the Emzine. Notice how the leather seats reflects the light from the flash. The one on the Emzine was taken with my palms partially blocking the light.

Once again, thanks for the comments!!! smile_thumbup.gif

Bro.
Are you are referring to the Nikon D60? This is a Good camera..... smile_thumbup.gif
The photo of the Grandis with the bumpers brighter is because of your internal flash. This flash can only light up a certain area, this being the bumper area.
You will now need an external flash with a diffuser. I have took some photos with a D70 at a friend's wedding, with internal flash, external flash, and External flash with diffuser.
The internal flash photos came out like your photos, with external flash the whole picture is brighter but there is still the problem with the brighter center spot, but with the diffuser I would say it is near perfect.
So as you mentioned, that is your next target....... smile_tongue.gif
