It also depends on how well u maintain your tyre pressure, loadings, what type of roads u often travel n etc...... all this affected your absorber's lifespan.
Once ur rides became spongy (bounces) then its time to change. If it is still firm, then it is still usable.

I drive a Honda City 1.5 Vtec. My car is already 6 yrs and clock about 105k. Honda SC say the shock absorber both front and rear "kaput" and need to replace. They quote me around RM1800-2000 for both front and rear including GST and workmanship. Front absorber one side cost abt RM600+ and rear one side around RM250+. Is this reasonable? I want to check out outside, any recommendation of a good and reliable workshop?

Not only check outside but ask around for compatible after market ones, should be much cheaper.....

Most original City parts come from Thailand, nothing to shout about. They are not expensive if you to get from Honda authorised stockist, i.e those that sell Honda parts only in Jln Ipoh / Sentul. You will be surprise the price they quote will be around 30-50% cheaper than SC.
You can check the price by calling them. They carry original Honda parts. However, only cash acceptable (no CC) http://autoworld.com...e-parts-centre/
For generic parts shop, you can get Sachs / Kayaba/ APM in order of pricing and quality (i.e Sachs being more pricier) and pricing of each brand should not that big difference. A typical front a piece is around RM 200 - RM 300 each and rear should be RM 130- RM 170 each. These are ball park figure. In total, it should less than RM 1k (excluding labour). Labour is around RM 70- RM 100 for front pair and back is around RM 60- RM 80 pair. Back is easier to change due to torsion beam set-up.
Total RM300 x 2 = 600
RM 170 x 2 =340
Labour RM 100 + RM 80 = RM 180.
All price exclude GST.
Grand total is around RM 1120 for outside shop if you buy your own parts.

RM300 not cheap too, because those days can get aftermarket ones for my Accord at RM160 for the front. Even though quite some time ago but it has doubled....
