The talk in Malaysia at the moment is that after being excluded from the results of the Australian Grand prix due to giving misleading testimony to the stewards in regard to allowing the Toyota of jarno trulli to pass his McLaren under safety car, Lewis Hamilton could still face further punishment, including being thrown out of the championship!
While it is unlikely that they would go that far, Lewis actually broke the International Sporting code by telling the stewards that he did not allow Trulli to pass when in fact he did, and that carries some very severe penalties.
"Given the seriousness of this matter, we cannot rule out further action at this stage," a spokesperson for the FIA said.
While Lewis did the right thing at the time, following team orders as they attempted to make sure their driver was not punished after the race, his error came at telling the stewards that he did not allow Trulli to pass, when the team radio confirmed the opposite.
The full transcript of what happened, including the team telling Lewis not once, but twice, to allow Trulli to pass him, can be found on the FIA’s official website.
