Hmm about the heel toe, do u all, 'kick' the accelerator or just a slight
tap to the accelerator?? i tend to 'kick' the accelerator with the heel
causing it pecut slightly ler, very rare to get a smooth one..

Normally you apply the heel and toe action during a corner. What i would
do is use your toe for the accelerator & the heel for the brakes.

It's like this, while maintaining a high speed during a corner, the
tendency of the car to get out of shape is higher and if you release your
throttle or brake you will either experience car instability or lose
momentum which is needed for a fast out speed. Hell & toe action allows
you to control the car in a corner while not sacrificing much of your
momentum. The feeling will be like, the front end of the car tend to tuck
into the corner deeper.

Make sure your toe on the throttle is maintained and apply brake pressure
with your toe.

Good luck trying.

er...doc...dunn understand yer posting

heel and toe is a function of braking, not taking corners. it allows you
to brake smmothly constatntly and brake hard, while at the same time
downshift thru the gears so the engine can be in the optimum powerband at
all times. in doing so you

1) will not upset the balance of the car
2) will not jerk the car..which causes unwanted motion
3) prepare the car for entry into corner at the right gear
4) in a small way, use the engine braking to stabilize the car (dont just
rely on engine braking, use the brakes)
5) have better control of car at turn in, since you are just getting off
the brakes and in the right gear at the same time

heel and toe is done in a straight line at the braking zone just before
the corner. the toe and ball of the foot is at the brake pedal, while the
heel is used to blip the throttle in between shifts to keep rpm up.

after that in the corner, there are various methods used to shift weight
and use this weight shifting to handle the car thru the corner.

just wanted ppl to get the facts straight. it might be dangerous doing
funny manuevers on the road. its really better to organise a bunch of
friends and get enrolled into advanced driving schools.

ooopsss,

yes you are right on that part, i must have confused myself with something
else (left foot braking).

I just would like to add that a driver still can carry on using the heel &
toe action into a corner until its time to accelerate (early or at apex or
whenever needed).

hello,
being an ex-biker helps! if you refer to most biking magazines, there are
tips on how to take corners effectively=out-in-out method. you will learn
your cornering lines and lean angles better.to multiply by ten, take a
cruiser where the clearance from peg to road is smaller.my last
bike, shadow 600(long wheelbase, small lean angles) requires planning when
taking corners, where a zxr(shorter wheelbase, huge lean angles) will do it
effortlessly in the same corner.
i also practiced left foot braking, but only applicable to country road. i
have done kuala kangsar to bruas(in perak) in 30 minutes, compared to
normal 1 1/4 hr trip and from awana to tmn melawati in 15 minutes. get the
powerband right near the maximum torque, stay in gear, just tap the brake
for slowing down. remember, engine braking does helps your brakes from
overheating.
eventhough no more bike now, i still smile everytime cornering with my
405.peugeot also claims that when there are no corners, they will stop
making cars.perhaps, this is a biker's version of a car.

I now it is quite frustrating not to have a proper place to do
driving/riding activities in Penang. I have once tried to lobby for a
short track to be build in Penang many years ago, with some sponsors
ready to build the infrastructure, but was turn down by the our state
govt. when I approach for a allocation of a piece of land area somewhere
near the Juru toll.
Anyway, DO NOT listen to Richnet and go 'there' to practice your driving,
only do it at the race track, even if you have to drive all the way to
KL, like i used to do..regularly for practice.
I remember those days late 80's, we used to race from Batu Ferringgi to
Esplanade, after midnite, organized illegal races with heavy bets, I used
to win a lot, but when I entered the first official Proton C'ship race at
Batu Tiga track, it was really different, cannot keep up with the REAL
racers. Only after lots of practice, did I win my first race in the
catagory...the moral is, do it with proper training, guidience and lots
of practice... in the RIGHT place- race track.
Ivan is also the right person to talk to, he's a establish racer !

topgun,

Err, thanks for the vote of confidence, but I am far from being
established. There are lots more ppl who have done better than what I have
achieved in motorsports. My passion is driving, and I love giving tuition
to budding motorsports enthusiasts, that's all.

Cheers.

That's good enough..! the point is getting the right techniques.
You could do a short course ( 1 day over a weekend) provided they have
enough ppl, especially those from Pg, many hot bloods with fast cars, and
take them off the streets and into the tracks......and do it the RIGHT
way!!!

Well, not 'very' established perhaps, but the skill...ohhh the skill :).
And with skill comes balls...and balls brings about hair raising antics
and scares the hell out of we 'regular' drivers taking a ride :). How I
miss such days, well then I think some subaru training is in order when I
finally get one in aus, a trip down to the khong residence seems in
order :).

drasmadi,
good for you for enrolling in the Defensive Driving course.
It makes a world of different and put a new perspective in your driving
skills.
Never say you are good until you have learnt from the experts and on the
tracks.
But do use your own car for the course as it is the one that you are
driving all the time.
