1. Side view mirror hit by a reckless motorcyclist.

2. Purchased a side view mirror replacement (part number 96545753, Made by GM Korea) for RM31.40.
Note : 8 clips and the heating elements

3. Tilt the side mirror outward and to its lowest position so that there's a good amount of space between the mirror and the housing in its upper right corner. Insert a rag through the gap to prevent the housing from being damaged by whatever tool you choose to pry the mirror out with. Insert the tool through the gap towards the center and pry open the top clips.

4. Once the tops clips are pryed open, gently remove the broken mirror from the housing.

5. Disconnect the two wires from the mirror by holding on to the heat shrink tubing and pull it out. Figure_5.jpg

6. Side view mirror housing without the mirror.

7.Remember to connect the wires to the new mirror. Tilt the replacement mirror to snap the lower clips in first. Check the alignment before snapping in the top clips. Hold the bottom half in position while pushing the top half into place. You will hear a “click” sound once the top clips are snapped into place.

I'm glad you find the DIY helpful.

I do not know about Kool View. If I were you I'll get the original replacement glass from the local SC. Cost RM31+ consider cheap if your compare with Toyota's which you may pay 3 to 4 times more for a replacement mirror glass. Getting Chevy replacement part will guarantee to fit.

Make sure you get the correct one. For the 1.6 its mirror does not have the heating elements

Here in SG, a piece of mirror cost S$43.87. Got mine replaced as it cracked too.

Very informative stuff. Unfortunately, my prob is not with the mirror itself.

It is with the side mirror folding mechanism (optra 1.8). Chergazam say it will cost over RM700 to replace the whole unit!

Does anyone know if it can be fixed? Or cheaper replacement?

Prob: When it unfolds, it seems the motor doesn't stop, resulting in the mirror give a 'klack' sound and springing back into position. It repeats several times before it finally stops!

Hope my description is clear.

Thanks.
