Hi,
I have both my vios (1st generation vios) car key worn out, holes on the
alarm button,
anybody have any suggestion / experience on replacing this? I am not happy
with the current key design and trying to avoid using back the same key
housing...

External workshop charge for RM 90 to replace a new "original" key housing..

where's your location? u can try cobra at ttdi. it's quite cheap to
change the casing. understand that they now have a better rubber material
which should last longer. or they also have new design if u want to, but
the price a bit on the high side.

atah,

Are you sure it's cheap?
For your info, the price stated the TS (Thread Starter) is quite cheap
already. What I can tell you is that a member of Cobra tells me that the
replacement for the casing cost RM120 because the key is glued to the
casing which makes it impossible to replace the casing. What they will do
is ask you to bring new spare key to duplicate another one and then glued
it to the new casing for RM120.

BUT if you car is still under warranty, YES, COBRA WILL DO IT FOR FREE,
which mean no charges at all. Just bring your new spare key and they will
duplicate one to glued onto a new casing without any charge. Oh, remember
to being your service book to prove that your car is still under warranty.

my vios is since nov 05. 1st key casing worn out and buttons became
holes. i bought one in UMWSC, the casing which sticks to a new uncut key
only costed me RM35.90, and it's free to remove the chip inside from the
old key to the new casing. so the old casing is empty inside but the old
key is forever stuck there, as spare key. if i want to cut the new key,
then i have to go outside to duplicate one, then i will have 3 keys. how
come u all got it quoted so expensive? i went to the Ipoh UMWSC.

Your car not under warranty anymore? Should be free under warranty as I
also replaced mine before.

the part number is PZY26-12945.

price now is RM10.90. if during service, can even get it change with free
labour.

it seems independent workshop charges more expensive than UMWT.
