Yes, there is true as V/S40 are sharing the chassi / platform with
mitsubishi carisma so do Waja and some parts are from Wira as
well ( Evo 1,2 & 3 )

So, many parts on under carriage or engine mounting are the
same... you can use Waja/ Wira Anti roll bar, stabilizer bar, 4 point
lower arm bar , engine lower cross member bar, lower engine
mounts, brake pads, brake hose.brake fuel tank.....

If you are looking for one, you should look for those manufactured on
2001 onward as we call phs 2 , those manufactured from 1998 to
2000 are call phs1 and those 2003 to 2004 are so call phs 2.5

The phs2 are with more than 1000 items improvement from phs1
and phs 2.5 are only with interior & exterior facelift from phs2

all phs1,2 & 2.5 are sharing same chassi & platform with Mitsubishi
but since phs2 & phs2.5 are improved from phs1 so do same parts
as well like suspension system, wheel, engine & mounts and of
course the interior & exterior as well like centre console, steering
wheel, safety fixture , headlights, bumper, fender and many thing to
mention here......

Here are my early posted on this forum

Physical:
1. Look for heavy accident impact. There is two 'tulang' chassis
running underneath the car, check it out. Just make sure it looks
good.

2. Most people sell cars without fixing absorbers,( especially the rear
one ) engine mountings( post 2001 model are better as it fitted with
top hydrulic mounts ), ABS. Simply because all these things is not
visible.

3. Make sure the smoke is not white.

4. Put S40 under rain. Make sure no water leaking.( especially the
cracked door rubber seal ) ,

5. 2001 S40 Interior rubber /plastic knobs ( especially on main light
control knob )surface tend to sticky / milky / scracthes due to our hot
weather,

Electronics:
1. Check all electrical stuff, signales, side mirrors, powerwindow,
make sure it's working good.

2 Check central lock.

3. S40 is coming with a great supporting seating position, dual-split
triangular braking system and audio. Dont lose these three.

Drive:
1. Expect a good braking distance.

2. Try hit bumps see how it react.

3. Gear should be a little tight.

4. Unstable idling is normal, but if you found a stable one, it's good.

5. Conering at high speed is miserable, fix it with RM100 Waja's
strutbar.

Dont be worry too much on scratch, paints, plastics, headlight,
rearlight, brakes. It's all affordable in failure, and always come with
alternatives.

Need to remind you that sudden died engine is very popular among
S40, due to Fuel pressure Regulator failure.

Here are some inform /spec.of S40

The S40 model year 2001( come only with turbo ) & above as it had
more that 1000 items
improvement from those 1998 - 2000 ( with N/A & turbo ), the major
improvement is following:

- 5 speed auto trasmission
- Cruise Control
- Centre Armrest compartment
- 6 air bags included IC inflatable Curtains
- Full leather upholsetry
- Dual clear headlamp
- Clear Fog light
- New ISOFIX Child Seat Attachment
- 10 CD changer
- Better FC design Engine with bigger cc ( from 160 to 163 )
- Softer / Rigid design suspension system
- More ergonomically design centre console & steeling wheel
- Multi spoke design alloy rim
- Better Noise insulation

Sorry don't have much inform on the N/A, but only with below inform

-Power - 136 bhp
-Max torque - 190nm
-0-100km - 10.7secs
-Top speed - 200km/h
-Kerb weight -1230kg
-Transmission - 4A/F

I guess beside the engine, the less is the same , oh yea.. is with out
fog light & trips computer.

The S40 are the lower maintenace cost if compare to S60, S80.cost
of schedule service are from rm 4xx - rm 18xx on authorize dealers,
but if by out side ex- volvo workshop normaly will cheaper by half.
But the good side of S40 is the parts are cheaper , it almost cost as
national car ( out side volvo parts shop ) ,even it can sharing with
WAJA on mostly on under carriage & brake system as both platform &
chassis is base on Mitsubishi.Carisma.

Good Luck

Hi,
My 2001 S40 rear suspension bushings start to produce noise when passing
uneven road surface or tight corner. Since S40 and Wira is sharing the same
suspension platform, I just wonder can I use Wira's replacement for Volvo's
Control Link + bushing (p/n: 30620785)?

i just charged my last months , the bushes is some thing very cheap
it cost only rm 60 for top & bottom per side.... all you need is to paid
only rm 120 for the both of rear suspension,

Volvo suspension is some thing than you dont want to compromise
on the quality as our car are more heavy & more powerfull than Waja

and also the setting of suspension ( our car suspension design just
like LEGO with all the componets are carefully putting together on
vertically aligment ) is very imported is the installer dont get it right it
will give alots of problem with many funny sound when on corner
turning , uneven road surface, as like what your said

the only bushes that can be sharing is the Rear Anti roll bar bushes
as WIRA /WAJA ARB are the same as V/S40 ARB ( if i'm not wrong )

Also, what the is recommended power steering fluid for S40?
