Guys,

Read in Bay 13 that if we use 205/55/16, the tyres will scrape the wheel
arches when making full turns and there is a photo of it at the website.
Cheeyam - do you encounter this problem? Having said that, there
shouldn't be any problem having bigger tyres for the rear, am i rite?

I have tried hot bits too and it's crap. The biggest problem is that the
shocks leak easily and frequently.

I read somewhere on one website of a person replaced his 850T5 with
lowered springs and bilstein shocks and he thinks its so much better than
the standard system. Gotta read with care though as he's the only one i
know who claims this. Will try to find it again and send to you guys.

Cheers

Bro,
When I took over the car, it is already with 205/55/16 and I just follow
the same. Soo far I don't see any scrape mark, maybe didn't notice it.
Will check this weekend.

Hai Guys,

I have my 850GLE front absorber replaced by Titan & a harder spring. So
far no complaint but i think it is better than stock. The good part is
that it come with 2 year warranty and fully servicable.

At least i do not need to worry about changing of absorber anymore. If you
asked me whether i will recommend it, my answer is "yes".

Just share a bit informations.

Volvos are somewhat limited as to the size of tires and wheels that can
be fitted to them. As a general rule Volvo recommends not exceeding a
maximum width of 205mm. If we look at the clearance between our front
strut housing and the sidewall of our tire, we can see why this is so.
Notwithstanding Volvo's recommendations, (700-900) series cars are
capable of wearing 225mm-wide tires, however, although the clearance
between tire and strut has been reduced to nil.

The later 850 and 70 series Volvos are apparently capable of handling
slightly wider tires -- up to 235mm.

Something to keep in mind when you're making your tire-buying decisions
is the height of the new tire, and how it will affect everything else.
A different tire height will affect our speedometer, odometer, and
effective rear-end ratio.

A taller tire will cause our speedometer/odometer to read low and will
decrease our effective rear-end ratio, resulting in slightly slower
acceleration numbers, whereas a shorter tire will do just the opposite.

Something else to keep in mind: if we're planning to add lowering
springs, the size of the tire will affect your results as well. If we're
running a 205/50 or a 225/45, there will be more room between the top of
the tire and the lip of the fenderwell, but less room between our exhaust
pipe and the road!

If we run the taller tires, this situation will be reversed. So, in this
respect, slightly taller tires may be a bit more practical. But we're not
known for being terribly practical around here anyway.

1. 195/65HR15 This is the stock tire for (700-900) series turbo Volvos
(200-series as well?). It is adequate for normal city and highway driving
and moderate performance driving. It provides a comfortable ride, while
still putting a nice-sized contact patch on the road. Required wheel
size: 15x6.

2. 205/50VR16 This tire has a 0.6% smaller circumference that the 195,
which is negligible (e.g., a 3.73:1 rear-end ratio would increase to a
3.75:1 ratio). It is a full 10mm wider, however. The extra width, coupled
with the shorter sidewall height, results in a noticeably firmer ride.
Minimum required wheel size: 16 x 6.5

3. 205/55VR16 The 205/55 size tire is the maximum Volvo recommends. The
205/55s have a 2.7% greater circumference than the stock 195s do, so your
speedometer will read a bit slow, plus your rear-end ratio will be
decreased slightly (if you have a 3.73:1 rear, your new effective ratio
will be 3.63:1). This difference is probably just enough to feel, albeit
slightly. Minimum required wheel size: 16 x 6.5.

4. 215/50VR16 For 240 owners, this may be the maximum width you can run
with little or no rubbing. Some (700-900) series owners may not wish to
go any wider than this, as well. The circumference of the 215/50-16 is 1%
greater than the 195/65-15, a negligible difference, but the 20mm
difference in width is enough to be noticeable.

5. 225/45ZR16 If you can find 225/45s -- these are one of the best
choices for the serious enthusiast. The 225/45 has a 1% smaller
circumference than the stock 195s (so a 3.73:1 rear-end ratio becomes an
effective 3.77:1 ratio), so there`s no performance penalty resulting from
a larger rolling ratio, such as will be seen with 205/55s and 225/50s.
Minimum required wheel size: 16 x 7 -- (16 x 7.5 recommended).

6. 225/50ZR16 This size is probably the most practical in terms of what
you get for what you pay for. As with the 205/55s, however, you`ll be
looking at a 2.7% greater circumference, which will decrease your
effective rear-end ratio by about a tenth of a point. Depending upon the
other mods you`ve done to your car, you may or may not be able to feel
the difference caused by the slightly taller tires. Minimum required
wheel size: 16 x 7 -- (16 x 7.5 recommended).

7. 225/40ZR17, The only one tire manufacturer that makes 225/40ZR17s:
Nitto. This is an extreme-performance tire (Dunlop D40 M2). It has a 0.5%
smaller cy tint IJust share a bit informations.

marlin, gatal lagi kah?? Nak mod lagi! I think the suspensions are
interchangeable but I've not heard or seen any that has been done.

"best suspension" can be very subjective. What I think is best may not be
for another. All very personal. It all depends on what suits you.

BTW, I don't think it is nice to be asking personal questions here in the
forum. I'll tell you vol940's profession when I see you tomorrow or he may
want to tell you himself!Smile

marlin,

you might want to try OhlinsThumbUp.

Fully adjustable sport dampers. Was used by the BTCC volvo cars.

Only drawback $$$Frown
