Dear All Volvo Specialist,

I am thinking to purchase either one from the above under the recent
promotion. However, I feel that S40 is nice and equip with latest
technology and features but its size is a bit small for me and my
family. On the other hand, S60 come with a right size but has been in
the market for many years. Please advice what is the better choice.

My opinions :

S60
better proportioned, better outlook(subjective)
wider (significant), longer legroom (marginal)
a/c vent at B-pillar
nicer dash layout(subjective)
better seats, better NVH, more executive feel.

S40
newer design, more gadgets, wing mirror indicator (must have), more
youthful feel, geartronic(must have).

That is my take on the two models. Factor in the 30k plus difference in
price, it would appear that the S40 is the better choice to me. Another
thing is that when you decide to sell in 5 years time, the 40 should
command a higher resale as it should still be the same model whereas
there will be an all new S60 in 08 or 09.

i will suggest to take S40 as this model is only 1 year old, whereas S60
already 4 to 5 years old.

the only complaint for S40 is the rear head and leg room.

If u think S40 having limited rear and legroom, surprisingly the new Audi
A4 rear legroom even tighter with cumbersome headrest

Thanks for all the input. I will arrange a test drive on S40.
Personally, I prefer S40 but only afraid its like Altis (on size) that I
am driving at the moment.

maybe the interior room is more or less same as Altis, but the features
and performance is way ahead.....

I think both Altis and S40 offered same legroom, albeit S40 have smaller
rear openings.

In terms of handling, power and refinement is on different league.

Thanks for all the advises. Will go and test drive both car this
weekend. However, seems like others owners have some minor problems here
and there on S40 2.4i. Finally, is S40 2.4i is very high on maintanance ?

Hi, KCLee,
I just bought an S60 and though there were a few probs they were rectified
promptly by SM.The S40 is still new and has many unresolved problems ie
aircond,wind noise and it is a smaller car.However, whatever you decide,
check with the competitor service centre coz after sales service is very
important.
