Hi all,
Just to share my thoughts....been contemplating gettin either an S40 or a
Facelifted Accord 2.4(assuming it ever reaches us next year). Been
visiting the showrooms and checking out the current models, I must say
the S40 looks excellent and the build quality has improved so much to the
models I have had at home. Only concern is with the rear space and the
resale value. Sigh.....thinking and thinking on what the best option
would be....

Cheers,
Gan

Gan,

i have compared Accord 2.4 with S40 before, in terms of performance,
handling, specification and safety, i strongly believe S40 is way ahead
of Accord. but if you want to consider the resale value, interior space
and popularity, then maybe you should go for Accord. Have you ever
compared Camry to Accord (if you prefer japanese car)?

Camry 2.4 comes with:-

HID headlamp
Auto rear roller blind
collapsible steering column
BA brake assist
TRC traction control ( a must for mid sized luxury car)
Headlamp self leveling
internal auto dim rear view mirror
Trip computer
Foot operated parking brake(same as merz)
Rear air conditioner
Electronic throttle (just as drive by wire in BMW)
Alarm with cabin sensor and tilt sensor

Accord 2.4 comes with:-

5 auto transmission
Better outlook
6 horse power more
same torque as Camry

which car would you choose?

Correct me if I m wrong.

Thanks

Gan,

I am in the same position as you too. May I ask if you are buying with
your own money or is it a company car?

I actually feel that the S40/V50/S60 is too small interior wise, coming
from driving the Cefiro; and the price differences. Those Volvo's are
actually in the class of Altis/Civic, space wise. But I have my reason
for opting for the Volvo cause it is a company car. I am thinking about
the next change. If I opt for Accord/Camry now, the next change could
still be the Accord/Camry class or at best Volvo. But if it is Volvo now,
then the next change would be a Volvo (at worst) but possibly BM/MB
class. So, it is for this reason that I opt for the Volvo, a much smaller
car but with the higher perceived image as a stop gap measure b4 the
German.Big Smile

I am now using a 2.4 Camry until Dec, when my Volvo (hopefully a V50)
supposedly arrive. I can understand the popularity of the Camry after
about 1000 km at the wheel. The car is big, powerful and has many useful
features as spelt out by andrewlim. It is a very competent car in all
motoring aspects. But IMHO, everyone else drives a Camry and the new
model will be here next year. The Accord is newer, has better interior
and is more powerful, as andrew has also spelt out. But I think the
Accord 2.4 also comes with the auto-dimming rear view mirror.

If I were to choose between these two, I would opt for the Accord now or
wait for the new Camry next year.

As for me, I am still waiting for the Volvo, just don't know whether it
will be the 40, 50 or the 60.

cheers.

sengthee,all,
thanks a bunch for your notes, the reason why I do not want the Camry is
I perceive it as too much an uncles car, and i dont mean to offend
anyone...the accord is sportier and I see myself putting on 17 inch rims,
some xenon lights,etc...
With the volvo, I love it to bits, but the size of the car is a put off
at the rear....like you mentioned...feels too much like a smaller jap car
to me.....just the interior, it drives well enough for sure...
Oh yea before I continue further, its my hard earned money....aint in a
position for a company car yet.... :) So I keep thinking and thinking,
what a freaking hard choice...I suspect if the 2006 accord comes here by
mid of next year, I might grab that, but still something has to be said
about the volvo, the image of driving it as well, its pretty much like u
said, if u drive a volvo now, u want to only move up....its like a gap
measure...SIGH.....

Cheers,
Gan

I don't have the 0% privilege. But as I do not have high borrowings, the
interest savings would be negligible anyway. But the 140,000km free
service is critical, and there is no time limit to its usage.

Just got my new S40 yesterday... I'm totally satisfied.

Now I understand why the power couldn't met my satisfaction in my first
test drive, because the heavy car loaded with 4 adults @ average 65kg so
the pick up was not so good.

Now, I drive alone, the pick up & mid range is really perfect for me..

Cons: interior compartment is very limited, now I can't keep rubbish
inside my car liao..Clown

No regret on Volvo. For life. ThumbUp

(0% for 2 years)? or better deal? from FA or SM?
My friend and me have made the booking too, hope that later we can
exchange our opinion.
