Hi,
need advise from all sifus here..my 940 engine just died off during
driving without warning! Luckily managed to restart. Happened few times
already and that scares me. One thing I noted that the radio died off
simutaneously, and then on again..anything to do with electrical/wiring
etc? Anyone experienced this b4?

maybe yo can try to check the connections at the battery,.. it happened
to me once and i re-tighten all the cables at the battery and it went
away.

at times, there are too many cables at the +ve terminal, so i split it
with individual lugs to get better connection. seems to solve the problem.

worth a try ,.. just my 2 cts

You could check your O2 sensor..... mine busted a few weeks back.... when
full busted then you'll regret it..... car starts to sound like a boat...
hope that helps...

innovol05,

Your problem is on the Power Stage or Ignition Amplifier or Power
Amplifier. This stuff is located at the left fender, above the battery,
form like a trapezium (black color) and on top of that a square ceramic
(grey color). Replace that stuff (new or used). I got used spare if you
want (RM100) - New price about (RM600).

After you replace the ignition amplifier or power stage, you should
restore the spark plug gap to 0.6 - 0.7 mm.

There is a risk also that your ignition coil already damaged, you could
replace it (RM 120) brand new from BOSCH.

Hope that this help you to solve your problem.

Thanks all,
maybe I should start with cheapest solution, like gkltsp said..battery
connection..if the problem still there, chances is power stage..(vol940,
does this affect the radio as well?) and O2 sensor (?? -where is this
thing??) During my experiment stage, any chance that the car just died
somewhere in the middle of nowhere and cannot restart?

The following is the order of the Ignition System :

Battery - Fuse - ECU - Power Stage - Ignition Coil - Distributor - Spark
Plug.

When the spark plug GAP is greater than the specified value (due to spark
worn), 0.6-0.7 mm Gap, The spark plug require greater voltage from
Ignition Coil. Excessive voltage requirement will demand greater CURRENT.
Thus Ignition coil will require Greater Current from Power Stage. Power
Stage suffer and Over Heated. When Power Stage (some sort like a
Transistor) Overheated, no current supplied to Ignition Coil, then No
firing and engine dead suddently. When power stage cool down, then you
can restart the engine, but this power stage is already damaging, problem
will continue intermittently whenever power stage overheated, engine dies
suddenly without warning.

You see the ignition system above is nothing to do with Oxygen Sensor.
When your Oxygen Sensor dies, the engine still runing (not dies
suddently), but this time your engine running in RICH Condition, means
that your Fuel Consumption Increase considerably. If you still get normal
fuel consumption then your O2S still OK.

Also the radio wiring, Not Involved in The Ignition System. To check the
battery connection, just press the horn or switch on the headlamp, if
both OK, then your battery is still healthy.

Oxygen Sensor is located at the Down Pipe behind the Turbo, bottom part
and not visible from top engine compartment, you will only see it from
undercarriage.

My suspect is only ONE ........ POWER STAGE.

I can tell you straight from my EXACT experienced is the ignition power
stage at the fender like vol940 said. You can try spend some money doing
something else but I a feeling you will eventually have to change that
staff... RM250/pc is the original Bosch but others like the USA made ar
about RM150 to RM180/pc only..good luck

I've tighten battery connection, so far so good. Went to Seremban during
weekend and luckily nothing went wrong. I managed to get 1 spare power
stage from a friend, who happened to changed the power stage as
recommended by his mech, only to find out the problem persist..so I guess
his one is still usable..
