1. did all 740 in malaysia came with the same engine? Or did they get the
940 engine later on?
2. from what year did the 740 had the 940 dashboard and the front 940 look?
3. what was the last year for the 740 here and was the earliest 740 sold a
4. Did the local 740 ever came with sunroof? I saw one the other day,
5. Did the 740 Tic came with the B230ET? I've never had the chance to peek
inside the engine of one but always wondered.

which was upgraded over the years. I think, from the 90s, the engines were
totally revamped internally, ie, the outside looks the same but the
insides have been upgraded. These engines are more efficient & lighter.
The B230ET (turbo?) engine was used in the 740 turbo intercooler, if I'm
correct. Very fast car, this one.

the specs in the internet, it's more powerful than the 940 full turbo.

but thanks for the offer. I have heard that that 740 TIC is according to
some the most powerful 4 cylinder in the range. And I think it had a
glamourous reputation in the past and still has. If only mine was one ...
So 1992 is the last year. I am "sort of" looking for another 740 or 940
when and if the price is right. But not now though, too many loans to
settle. Maybe a wagon 740 Tic ... was there any in Malaysia?
If from 90 onward it had a new engine, was it the B230F? Mine is a 1989
740 with a B230E. More perky and umpph in my opinion compared with the 940
at home and better mileage. (both non turbo of course) But it's developing
connector issues in the engine bay which I'm keeping an eye on. Did all
pre 90 740 came with this engine? Anyone else having the same issues with
I've been advised by a few to change my B230E to a turbo (LPT) when the
engine kaput. How's the B230ET maintenance wise compared to the newer
turbos in the 940? Can anyone offer some insight?

lasting. Read it somewhere there is one 740 taxi in London that has
already clocked more than 1 million miles and still start with one crank !
What's the engine connector issue you are talking about ?

count me in. just name the time and place.

I personally doubt my engine will kaput. Heck I think it will be still
running after I'm gone. I don't know why but already 2 mechanics has
suggested the change even though they do admit my B230E is in good shape.
Trying to make extra income maybe?!
What model is your 740 scenic?
The connector I'm referring to are the multipin connectors that is in
between the harnesses and the connectors to the sensors, headlamps, washer
pump etc. I've discovered that literally all of them are in bad shape. If
you pry open the connectors, any one will do, you'll see that it has these
rubbery insulators covering the terminals of the wires. Mine has
disintegrated causing a lot of issues due to one - loose connectors,
second more exposue for oxidation to occur. Some of the connectors are
green from oxidation. Also the crimping done by todays standard is not
good. As a result the wires are exposed to rust and a few just have
snapped of just by touching.
Does your 740 suffer the same? I'm much interested if it has and whether
you have a solution.
